Thank you for electing me as your Boone County Recorder candidate.

The work begins now, and I am committed to being ready to serve Boone County with kindness, transparency, accuracy, and responsible stewardship of your tax dollars. I am honored by the trust and support you have shown throughout this campaign.

Thank you to my husband, family, friends, and even those who were strangers when this journey began, for your encouragement, support, and confidence over these past couple months. I could not have done this without you.

On a personal note, receiving the news last night lifted my mom’s spirits in a way I cannot fully express. That moment made this victory even more meaningful to me, and I am grateful to be able to share it with her and the wonderful staff at Mercy who is caring for her.

Thank you again for your support. I am excited for what lies ahead and ready to continue the work for you!

I respect that people can have different opinions about qualifications and experience. Voters deserve to hear from candidates and decide for themselves who they believe will best serve Boone County.

For context, I’ve only been old enough to vote in four presidential elections. I also spent nearly five years living in another state before returning home to Boone County. In addition, I spent most of my life in rural Boone County, which meant I was not eligible to vote in city elections.

I’m also not a politician. I’m someone who believes elected officials should listen to residents, ask questions, continue learning, and work hard every day to serve the public.

Experience matters. So does integrity, work ethic, transparency, and the willingness to learn and adapt. No one starts any elected office knowing every single aspect of the job on day one. Strong leadership comes from surrounding yourself with knowledgeable people, listening carefully, putting in the work, and always being willing to improve.

That’s why I’ve already started building relationships with Recorders across Iowa, individuals in the titling industry, along with internal and external departments that work with the Recorder’s Office on a daily basis. I believe collaboration, communication, and learning from experienced professionals are important parts of serving the public.

This campaign has never been about politics for me. It’s about serving Boone County residents, protecting taxpayer dollars, transparency, and making sure people feel respected when they walk into the Recorder’s Office.

County government serves everyone — Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and those who may not belong to any party at all.

As someone running for Boone County Recorder, I believe listening to all residents is part of the job. Welcoming people to learn about local government and participate in the process should never be viewed as a negative.

I’m proud to have support from Republicans, Democrats, and Independents alike because I believe county government works best when we focus on serving people instead of dividing them by political labels. We need more bridges between neighbors and less division.

My values and principles speak for themselves, and voters can decide who best represents them. I’m focused on transparency, professionalism, fiscal responsibility, and serving every person who walks through the Recorder’s office with respect.

Vote MacKenzie Davis - Don’t forget the Boone Courthouse will be open this Saturday, May 30th, from 8:00-4:00 for early voting!

Did you know that even if you don’t own a home and you’re renting, you still help pay property taxes?

Rental properties are taxed, and because rentals are a business, landlords have to account for expenses like property taxes, insurance, maintenance, and repairs when setting rent prices. That means renters are still contributing to the local tax base and supporting Boone County services, even if they never receive a property tax statement directly.

County money also comes from more than just property taxes. It comes from fees for services, licenses, permits, recording fees, state funding, grants, and other sources of revenue. But at the end of the day, every dollar still comes from the people.

Whether you own property, rent an apartment, run a business, farm the land, or pay fees for county services, you are contributing to Boone County. County decisions still impact your wallet and your daily life.

And for the record — I jokingly told my husband that since I don’t technically “own” our house, I shouldn’t have to help pay the property taxes. Apparently, that’s not how marriage works either. 😅

Vote MacKenzie Davis for Boone County Recorder — because understanding county government means understanding both business and the impact taxes have on everyday people.

One week from today, the courthouse will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for voting only. Stop in on Saturday, May 30th, and keep them busy!

I also want to thank the Auditor’s Office staff for giving up part of their Saturday — time they would normally spend with the people who matter most — to make voting more accessible and convenient for our community. While it may be part of the job requirement, they are always happy to serve you and help ensure every voter has the opportunity to make their voice heard.

I’ve been receiving questions about the repurposed furniture situation and why I believe it matters.

My concern is not with Rasmussen Construction or the quality of the work they were hired to complete. This is about fiscal responsibility and how taxpayer dollars are managed.

When taxpayers are already funding skilled county staff and the county already owns the equipment necessary to complete projects like extending table legs or repurposing an old table into shelving, it is reasonable to ask why those tasks were outsourced at an additional cost.

These kinds of decisions matter because they reflect how public resources are viewed and managed. Good stewardship means evaluating the resources we already have available before choosing to spend more money externally.

Accountability, transparency, and responsible budgeting should always come before convenience or unnecessary spending. Taxpayers deserve thoughtful decision-making and confidence that every dollar is being used wisely.

I may be new to the Recorder role, but I’m not new to hard work, customer service, accountability, or learning quickly. I understand that this position is about more than paperwork — it’s about serving the public accurately, efficiently, and respectfully every single day.

What I bring to the table is a strong work ethic, real-world customer service experience, fiscal responsibility, and a willingness to listen and collaborate. I believe county government works best when departments communicate and support one another, because every office plays a role in serving our community.

If elected, I will work to build strong partnerships with other county departments, fellow Recorders across Iowa, and the staff who keep county operations moving. There is always something to learn from those with experience, and I believe teamwork, communication, and shared knowledge lead to better service for taxpayers.

I won’t pretend to know everything on day one — but I will promise to show up prepared, ask questions, learn continuously, and put the people of this county first. My focus will be on transparency, efficiency, accessibility, and creating an office that residents can trust and depend on.

This campaign isn’t about politics for me — it’s about service, responsibility, and being willing to do the work.

Honesty, transparency, and camaraderie are at the heart of this campaign and the way I believe public service should be approached. Constituents deserve clear communication, responsible leadership, and offices that work together efficiently and respectfully for the good of those we serve.

I believe trust is built through openness, accountability, and a willingness to listen. That means being transparent about decisions, fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars, and committed to finding practical solutions that best serve the people of Boone County.

Strong offices are built on teamwork. When departments communicate, collaborate, and support one another, it creates better service, smoother operations, and a stronger experience for those we serve. I value camaraderie not only within the workplace, but also within the community we serve.

This campaign is about bringing professionalism, integrity, and a strong work ethic back to public office — while always remembering that the priority is serving constituents fairly, efficiently, and respectfully.
