Lion Heart Heroes Foundation

Lion Heart Heroes Foundation Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of non-traumatic death in the military.

Lion Heart Heroes advocates for prevention, recognition, and rapid response to SCA in the military, enhancing readiness, and keeping military hearts beating.

This is our medical director, Amy Thompson, explaining Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and how it affects athletes and active members of the military!

If you see someone collapse, assume HEART. CALL. PUSH. SHOCK.
CALL 911.
PUSH and perform CPR
SHOCK with an AED!

Action needs to be taken within the first 3 minutes! Whether you are playing a sport, running a marathon, or in military bootcamp, you should be aware of the dangers of SCA during activity!

Here's another video our team made while in Washington, DC, this spring!

As we are so excited about the House approving our language, we are still anxiously awaiting word from the Senate this summer! Our founder, Laurie Finlayson, is a force like no other, and she is changing the world one mission at a time!

This could be the most important video you watch if your loved one collapses in sudden cardiac arrest.

Today, we celebrate a truly life-saving victory!

Congratulations to Rachel Moyer and the Greg Moyer Foundation on the passage of Greg Moyer’s Law in Pennsylvania: legislation that will require AEDs to be present at all PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association)-sanctioned athletic events and practices, along with emergency cardiac response plans in schools.

For more than two decades since the heartbreaking loss of Greg, Rachel has turned unimaginable grief into purpose, advocacy, and action. Through tireless determination and a love for other families, she has worked to ensure that no parent experiences the same preventable tragedy.

Rachel and the Gregory W. Moyer Defibrillator Fund have donated hundreds of AEDs to schools across Pennsylvania, helping save lives and protect young athletes throughout our communities. And today, that perseverance has become law.

This achievement is more than legislation. It is Greg’s legacy living on through every life that may now be saved. Thank you, Rachel, for all of your work! We love you!

Happy Mother's Day to the incredible Gold Star Mothers whose love, strength, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Behind every fallen service member is a mother who carries their memory forward with unwavering courage. On this Mother’s Day, we hold space for both the pride and the grief, and we thank these mothers for the lives they raised, the love they continue to give, and the legacy their children leave behind.

Happy Mother's Day!

Honoring PO2 William Gomez Jr.: A devoted son, friend, and sailor whose sudden passing led to a breakthrough genetic discovery now protecting families across the country.

After Gomez passed during a training exercise in 2025, genetic testing determined that he had cardiac abnormalities. This testing impacted the results of hundreds of other families.

His service lives on in the lives now being protected because of him. Lion Heart Heroes honors his legacy and stands with his family in hope and remembrance.

Cardiac health and testing must be mandated in our military. Rest in peace, Sergeant Gomez.

PFC Michael Giannattasio was an intelligent, driven, and exceptionally strong marine. He excelled in every way, from scoring exceptionally high on his GT test to earning the “Iron Man” award at Parris Island. He was the picture of health, discipline, and determination.

Yet on August 30, 2017, Mike died during Reconnaissance Training at Camp Pendleton.

His story is a powerful reminder that even those who seem the strongest can be vulnerable and why it's important to continue the conversation about heart health and sudden cardiac arrest prevention.

In the years since, his mother, Jane Giannattasio, has honored his legacy by creating the Iron Mike Foundation: a yearly 5K run in Michael’s name. 2025 marked the 8th year of this incredible event, with 100% of proceeds going toward scholarships that support education and special needs programs and therapies.

Lion Heart Heroes supports all Gold Star families, and we are excited to elevate other voices in the community. If you're interested in supporting the Iron Mike Foundation as a way to honor Michael’s life and show gratitude for the sacrifices made by our fallen heroes, please visit IronMikeFoundation.com to donate to the cause.

Yesterday, Lion Heart Heroes was helping celebrate the Month of the Military Child at Naval Station Everett. It was a beautiful day connecting with our community. We shared information about Lion Heart Heroes, AEDs, how to recognize sudden cardiac arrest, and how to perform CPR. Kids left with wooden and foam airplanes, and over 50 children (plus some adults!) got hands-on practice at our CPR station. Grateful for the chance to talk with so many families about the gaps in heart health awareness in the military, and how to be prepared.
