Marshals and Constables kept the peace in Bogota until 1920, when an ordinance establishing the Bogota Police Department was adopted by the Borough of Bogota. Today, under the authority of Chief Daniel Maye, the Bogota Police Department is staffed with a Captain, five Sergeants, nine Patrolman for a total of 16 . Two of the 16 patrol officers are assigned to the Detective Bureau. In addition, the Police Department mans the desk with four full time and two part time emergency police dispatchers.

🚨🚔 In support of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) nationwide “Click It or Ticket” campaign, the Bogota Police Department, along with law enforcement agencies throughout New Jersey, will participate in a statewide traffic safety initiative.

From May 18, 2026 through May 31, 2026, additional patrol officers will conduct enforcement details focused on educating motorists and reinforcing the importance of wearing seat belts while operating a motor vehicle.

Seat belts save lives. Buckle up every trip, every time.

The Hackensack Police Department advises motorists that River Street will be closed between 5/11 and 5/18 for milling and paving operations.

Please be patient as we work to improve our roadways. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan alternate routes during this time.

New Jersey has updated its e-bike laws to improve safety for riders, pedestrians, and drivers.

✅ E-bikes are now considered motorized bicycles
✅ License required (15–16 need a motorized bicycle license; 17+ need a valid driver’s license)
✅ Registration & insurance required
🚫 Riders under 15 are not permitted

Please make sure you are in compliance before riding on public roadways.

🚧 Road Closure Notice 🚧
On April 13, 2026 and April 14, 2026 West Main Street between River Road and the Hackensack border will be milled and paved from approximately 8am-4pm each day.
There will be temporary road closures in the area shown on the map, along with detours.

🔴 Closed Roads (Red):
Sections of Main St, River Rd, and nearby connecting streets will be closed to through traffic.

🟢 Open/Detour Routes (Green):
Surrounding streets will remain open and can be used as alternate routes.

🚫No Parking will be allowed on South Street between River Rd and Larch Ave

📍 Location: Around Olsen Park and the Bogota Recreation Center area

Please plan ahead, follow posted detour signs, and allow extra travel time. We appreciate your patience as work is completed safely.

‼️Overnight and Friday Parking‼️
Due to the Easter and Passover holidays, the overnight parking ordinance has been suspended from Friday, April 3, 2026 until Tuesday, April 7, 2026. You will not need overnight parking permission again until the night of April 6, 2026.
The No Parking Friday 9am-12noon ordinance has also been suspended Friday, April 3, 2026.
