🌿 About Tiye LeVias Yayu
Tiye LeVias Yayu is a candidate for Bogalusa City Council – District D and a lifelong servant of the Bogalusa community.
Tiye currently serves as a Planning & Zoning Commissioner and previously served on the Bogalusa Charter School Board. Tiye is the Founder of the Bogalusa Free Community Closet, created to provide free clothing, furniture, heaters, blankets, and essential items to residents in need. Tiye is also a member of Bogalusa Strong and served as Vice President of Bogalusa Helping Hands.
As former President of BCAC, Tiye helped organize youth-focused, family, and community events that brought residents together. After BCAC was nominated to assume leadership of the defunct Bogalusa Parks and Recreation Department, Tiye appeared before the City Council on behalf of the organization, and BCAC was successfully appointed through a unanimous vote.
As CEO of RCML Food Pantry, Inc., Tiye has led and sustained large-scale food distribution efforts across Bogalusa and Washington Parish. RCML is an authorized USDA food pantry and operates from a building provided by the City of Bogalusa — reflecting accountability, partnership, and community trust.
During one year alone, RCML distributed more than 2.1 million pounds of food after establishing a parish-wide POD (Point of Distribution) system to ensure resources were distributed equitably throughout Washington Parish. RCML continues regular food distribution in partnership with Second Harvest Food Bank and collaborates with other local organizations by supplying food boxes for their clients.
When Catholic Charities ceased local food distribution, RCML stepped in to continue service at the American Legion Hall, the Center for Aging, and Westminster Senior Housing. Tiye’s work has also included purchasing groceries for families in crisis, creating comprehensive community resource lists, helping raise funds to prevent evictions — including for families in HUD housing — and coordinating the distribution of more than 800 holiday turkeys annually for three consecutive years.
Before RCML expanded, Tiye personally helped distribute food from home in partnership with local faith leaders, demonstrating a hands-on commitment to meeting immediate needs.
Raised in a family deeply rooted in faith and service, Tiye learned early that leadership is not about titles — it is about responsibility, integrity, and showing up for others. A simple principle continues to guide that work: serve first.
This campaign focuses on:
• Safer neighborhoods
• Addressing infrastructure and everyday concerns like potholes
• Fair distribution of city resources ***
• Being a strong, listening voice for District D
Tiye believes effective leadership begins with listening, is strengthened by integrity, and succeeds when the community works together.
“It is always a community effort.”
