It is with an incredibly heavy heart that we share the devastating news of the passing of one of our high school students, Szedi Roush. Our entire community is mourning this profound loss, and our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers go out to Szedi’s family, friends, and everyone who loved her during this unimaginably difficult time.
In moments of such heartbreaking sorrow, there are no easy answers, but there is immense power in coming together to support one another. When the pain felt across our community is this deep, we must lean into each other for strength, ensuring that no one has to carry their grief or their struggles in isolation. By wrapping our arms around Szedi’s family and her close circle of friends, and by actively listening to and lifting up our young people, we can find a collective path forward—one rooted in unconditional care, empathy, and presence.
While we grieve, we are also reminded of how vital it is to look out for each other. We gently urge every family in our community to take a moment tonight to pause, connect, and check in on your loved ones. Let’s make sure our children, neighbors, and friends know, without a doubt, that they are deeply loved, that they are safe, and that they never have to carry their burdens alone. Please listen closely, hold each other a little closer, and remind one another that support is always available.
For any students, staff, or community members struggling with this news or facing their own heavy moments, please know that you do not have to walk through this alone. We are arranging for counselors to be available at the high school tomorrow, Monday, June 15, to provide a safe space for anyone needing to talk, grieve, or simply be with others. Specific details with the location and time will be released on the district’s page as soon as they are available.
Additionally, professional and confidential support is available 24/7 for anyone experiencing a crisis or needing immediate help:
• The Su***de & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988
Information regarding arrangements to honor and remember Szedi will be shared with the community as soon as those details become available.
Please be gentle with yourselves and one another as we navigate this grief together.
The family has informed us that they have established “The Szedi Roush Foundation” which is focused on grief and healing for families. They have established a page with a webpage to follow. Please follow their page for more information.
