What is the Blackwood Fire Cadet Program?

The Blackwood Fire Company’s Fire Cadet Program is a recruitment program designed to attract 14 and 15 year old youth toward serving their communities as firefighters. Blackwood’s Fire Cadets will not respond to actual emergencies. The cadets will attend classes and participate in training drills designed to familiarize them with the physically demanding work performed by firefighters. The cadets will also assist with the Blackwood Fire Company’s non-emergency related community activities such as the annual Blackwood Christmas Parade. Blackwood’s Fire Cadets will be eligible to advance to the fire company’s junior firefighter auxiliary when they turn 16 years of age and become certified firefighters when they turn 18 years of age.
