I’ve heard from many residents, local officials, environmental advocates, labor representatives, and others regarding the growing number of proposed data center projects in New Jersey.
The fact is that there are a lot of unanswered questions and a lot of strong opinions on both sides of this issue. That’s why I introduced A4945, which would require the Board of Public Utilities to conduct a comprehensive study on the impacts of data centers in New Jersey, including energy demand, environmental impacts, water usage, infrastructure needs, impacts on local communities, and potential costs to ratepayers.
Before we make major policy decisions, we need facts. Before we hand out incentives, approve projects, or change regulations, we should understand exactly what the impacts will be on taxpayers, our electric grid, our environment, and our communities.
My focus is simple: protecting residents, workers, municipalities, and ratepayers while ensuring New Jersey has the information necessary to make informed decisions.
Whether you’re for data centers, against them, or somewhere in the middle, I believe we can all agree that good policy starts with good information. A4945 starts that conversation.
