We are a proven, cost-effective, and sustainable model that seeks to benefit employers, job seekers, and the entire Birmingham economy. We envision a city where everyone can thrive in careers that offer career advancement and community impact.

September opens with Labor Day, a holiday that's been around since 1894 to honor the workers whose effort built this country's strength and prosperity. It's also the start of National Workforce Development Month, twenty years of recognizing the professionals, programs, and partnerships that connect people to careers and strengthen communities.

Feels like a good time to also share this: TIME just named 12 Alabama companies to its inaugural list of America's Best Private Companies, with eight headquartered right here in the Birmingham metro.

That's a positive for our economy. Our job is making sure more residents across Central Alabama have real access to it, through coaching, career pathways, and employer relationships that turn potential into a career.

Join Birmingham Corps and AmeriCorps Alabama for 9/11 Day of Service

This September 11 marks 25 years, and our AmeriCorps members will be joining the national 9/11 Day of Service to honor those we lost. We'd love for you to join us.

9/11 Day is coordinating volunteers in 50 cities to pack more than 17 million meals for people and families facing food insecurity. Event Support Team roles are open now, from leading a packing line to greeting volunteers as they check in.

This September 11 marks the 25th anniversary, and 9/11 Day is working to make it the biggest nationwide day of service yet. They need YOUR help to make it happen. As a member of the Event Support Team, you'll help keep things running so that thousands of volunteers across 50 cities can pack 17 million+ meals for neighbors facing hunger. Just a few hours of your time can change lives. Weโ€™re looking for volunteers to serve on the Event Support Team on Friday, September 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the BJCC North Exhibit Hall. Four years of opportunity and lives changed, built right here in our region. And we're just getting started.

Birmingham Corps is celebrating four years, and we are grateful to the people who made it possible - the participants who showed up ready to grow, the employers who opened their doors, the partners who leaned in, and the community that said yes to investing in its own talent.

Four years of commitment looks like this:
- Career development programs that meet people where they are - and move them forward.
- AmeriCorps members serving across Greater Birmingham, strengthening the civic and professional fabric of our region.
- A growing alumni collective, turning individual success into a stronger regional talent network.
- Industry-focused programming connecting early-career professionals to the sectors driving Birmingham's growth.
- Participants earning 20-30% more annually, staying in jobs at 40%+ higher rates.

Birmingham Corps participants and alumni are our neighbors, colleagues, and future leaders. We are proud of what has been built, and we know the best is still ahead.

If you are an employer, funder, partner, or simply someone who believes Birmingham's people deserve real investment, we would love to have you with us for year five.

The opportunity is here. Come build it with us. www.birminghamcorps.org

Meet Jaโ€™Nise Gentry. ๐Ÿ‘

Jaโ€™Nise serves as a Birmingham Corps AmeriCorps member at Women's Foundation of Alabama, where she helps with data analysis and research โ€” work that shapes who the foundation reaches and who they need to connect with next across the state.

Through her AmeriCorps service, Jaโ€™Nise builds real-world skills while making a real impact. Plus she gets access to trainings like mental health first aid, CPR, and other life skills that go way beyond the job.

Her words say it best: Birmingham Corps doesnโ€™t gatekeep opportunities. We want to see you win. ๐Ÿ†
