🚒 A Call to Serve – Downriver Volunteer Fire Department 🚒
My name is Gloria Reynolds, and I currently serve as Acting Chief of the Downriver Volunteer Fire Department. I have been involved with the development of this department since its conception — serving over the years as Secretary, Board Chairperson, and for the past 10 years, as Chief.
You may see me holding my trumpet in the attached photo. I play in honor of our veterans on Memorial Day and at funeral services. My commitment to this community — and to those who have served — runs deep.
Over the years, I have responded to emergencies with fewer than a handful of volunteers. At times, I have responded alone due to the lack of available help. Our response area covers approximately 20 miles of Highway 299, from Cedar Flat to Helena and the surrounding communities.
I am now semi-retired and beginning to travel more frequently. This leaves our community without consistent, skilled emergency coverage. It is time for me to fully retire and pass the leadership of this department to someone with knowledge, experience, and — above all — dedication to answer the call.
We are urgently seeking:
A qualified and committed individual to serve as Fire Chief
Volunteer firefighters
EMTs and First Responders
Community members willing to assist with traffic control and support roles
Without volunteers, this department cannot function. Currently, our capabilities have been reduced to providing rescue and basic first aid. We do not have enough personnel to properly staff a fire engine.
I would hate to see our community lose this vital resource simply because no one was willing to step forward.
If you live in our response area and have ever wondered whether you could make a difference — the answer is yes, you can.
Please consider becoming part of the Downriver Volunteer Fire Department.
