Troy D. Markham, Bexley City Council

Troy D. Markham, Bexley City Council Learn more about my service to the City of Bexley over my past two terms. Our police department, library, schools, and city services are the best in the state.

On city council, I’ll do my part to inform and represent all of the different neighborhoods that make Bexley great. I will dedicate my efforts to encourage new development that brings commerce and foot traffic to Main Street. As a city council member, I will focus on maintaining this quality. Investments in infrastructure, security, and development of Bexley’s perimeter will pay dividends for the

future. I will work on behalf of our city to guide the growth of businesses and development in these areas. Above all, I will be a diligent steward of our city’s financial foundation. This ensures that our legacy is passed on to future generations and that Bexley remains a place people desire to live.

I spent Tuesday morning at Starbucks, holding office hours with fellow council member Monique Lampke. Several residents came by to talk about local issues...and a few other elected officials popped up too! Resident Tony Murray got some extra attention when he stopped by!

Bexley folks: today the city mailed out info on the Electric Aggregation Program. I want to let you know that the mayor and city council have spent extra time to ensure that this program is an economic and environmental benefit to residents.
Key points:
If you do nothing, you will be enrolled in the program, administered by Dynegy.
You may opt out now by returning the attachment mailed to you.
Enrolling in the program will be a substantial guaranteed savings over staying with AEP. The new energy supplier will be a fixed rate of $0.0686 kWh.
You may opt out of this program at any time. There is no fee to opt out and switch. There's no enrollment fee or termination fee to leave the program.
Nothing changes with your electric service or billing. AEP continues to administrate your electric service.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Please also note that if you choose to join another program, you are advised to examine the deal closely. Many competing energy companies will offer a lower cost that is a trial rate that may rise and lock you in for a period of time and/or charge termination fees.
I, and the other council members, unanimously approved this deal because we feel confident that it provides a good deal for Bexley and also has an environmental benefit. We spent considerable extra time waiting to move on this until the deal and the rates were favorable and competitive.

The first ever joint meeting between Bexley City Council and Bexley Community Foundation took place last week. It was a great opportunity for all of us to interact and learn about each other. It was my pleasure to present the BCF Board with an engraved plaque celebrating their achievements in our city.

Since my first day on city council, we've worked to create a facility for our seniors in Bexley. Yesterday I was extremely pleased to help officiate the ribbon-cutting to open the facility on North Cassingham. Dog park update! Columbus' contractor for their multi-year sanitary sewer project cleared this area in the past month, allowing us to make progress on the access improvements to the proposed park. We also believe that we have satisfied legal counsel on the proposed easement and that Capital University is prepared to sign consent.
Clearing these steps should allow us to begin construction of the Bexley dog park soon. Stay tuned.

This week, city council passed legislation to enact, administer, and fund the program to assist residents with improvements to prevent sewer/overflow backups to their homes. This assistance will be available to residents in March.

In a 7-0 vote on Jan. 12, Bexley City Council approved Ordinance 60-20, which enacts a program to prevent sewer backflows by offering financial aid to residents.

This week, the Bexley CIC presented a plan for development in two locations within Bexley. One is on Livingston Avenue and the other on North Cassady (the "Art with Anna" building). The developer will be through the CIC, with local residents guiding the process and will involve the creation of 43 new housing units (mixed income) and incorporate some retail space in a mixed-use facility (on Cassady). You can hear more about this project at Tuesday's city council meeting, where a presentation will be made.
