Fall mental health 💚 can be shaped by several changes happening in daily life at once.

During the transition into autumn, children and teens may move from the flexibility of summer into a much more structured environment. Parents and caregivers are adjusting too, which can make the beginning of the season feel noticeably different across the household.

Children do not always have the words to say, “I’m overwhelmed by everything that changed when school started.” Instead, stress may show up through changes in emotions, behavior, sleep, or how they respond to everyday expectations.

Rather than focusing on whether a particular behavior appears on a list, consider these six questions to help identify what may be different from how your child typically functions.

Fall mental health can be influenced by much more than changing weather. As summer shifts into fall and autumn routines take shape, many families also face a return to school schedules, earlier mornings, homework, extracurricular activities, sports, social demands, work routines, and tighter househo...

“Is all this mine to carry?” 🤔

I’ve been known to take on more than I should in all kinds of relationships, but none more intensely than motherhood.

Let’s look at all this ‘taking on” as what’s in our backpack.

The first backpack is the diaper bag. It carries the necessities to anticipate all your baby’s needs. As they grow, your child’s needs change from the absolutely necessary to the things they can increasingly do for themselves.

Your role and titles change — and therefore your responsibilities. Your backpack gets heavier. Now you’re the chauffeur, shopper, cook, confidante, supervisor, and problem-solver.

📚 Back to School, Back to Routines… and More Stress?

Fall brings a return to routines—earlier mornings, homework, sports, activities, work schedules, and a whole lot more juggling.

While getting back into a rhythm can feel good, the transition from summer’s flexibility can also bring added stress and anxiety for both kids and parents.

This week, Dr. Konstantin Lukin, Ph.D. of Lukin Center for Psychotherapy, explores what families may notice during this seasonal shift in “Fall Mental Health: How Seasonal Changes Can Affect Children, Teens, and Families.”

He explains why changes in sleep, behavior, anxiety, or family tension may become more noticeable this time of year—and how the return to structure can help reveal when someone may need a little extra support.

"Wait, what was I saying?" 🤔

Multitasking, managing schedules, remembering appointments, keeping track of everyone in the family—and somehow knowing exactly where that missing item is when no one else can find it. Women rely on their brains to keep a lot of plates spinning.

Most moms we know place cognitive sharpness at the top of the list when it comes to what they value about their health.

So when names suddenly disappear, words are harder to find, or you walk into a room and have absolutely no idea why you’re there, it can be unsettling.

The good news? Brain fog and changes in memory are incredibly common during midlife, with stress, lack of sleep, and hormonal changes all playing a role.

So, what to do?

👉 Click the link to learn more from our expert, Dr. Anne Marie Valinoti of Harley Street Medical, about why women experience memory changes in midlife—and what may be behind that all-too-familiar “brain fog.”
