On Saturday evening neighbors gathered in Benzonia for the first Academy Park tree lighting. There was cocoa for toasting and marshmallows for roasting and carols were sung in the snow. East Ave residents Jim and Chris Anderson were honored with turning on the lights.

The event was assembled by the Village of Benzonia Planning Commision, but it was a true community effort. The trees are from Scout Troop 10 but purchased and decorated by local families and businesses. The Cottage Pros chipped in to help stand the big tree up, and Family Fare donated many of the lights. The cocoa was provided by Hilltop Soda Shoppe, and the marshmallows by the Benzonia Public Library. Cookies were gifted by Famroots, and other treats were available at Keep on Grinding.

With such a tremendous outpouring of support, it is likely this will become a new tradition!

Thank you to everyone who helped make it a magical evening!

Saturday night! 8pm. Come join us in the park for Village tree lighting! (Hot cocoa, bonfire, marshmallows, & carols)
Festivities all day long. 12-6pm: Festival of trees at Benzie Area Historical Society and Museum, 11-12pm: Ornament Making at Benzonia Public Library, 6pm: Lion, Witch & The Wardrobe at Mills Community House.
