Vote Kina Chadwick for Zone 7, BLP Schools!
It is my pleasure to endorse and support Kina Chadwick for Bend La Pine School’s, Zone 7.
Kina has served on the school board as the incumbent for months since my resignation last September. Kina brings a critical perspective to this Board.
None of us can contest the evidence that our youth are suffering through an incredibly challenging and disheartening experience in our schools. Attendance and graduation rates continue to decline due in part to their mental and emotional health that continues to not be addressed appropriately. Recent student surveys clearly indicate that students outside of the dominant culture are suffering and are affected more adversely when they do not have the support in place both at home or at school.
Our students are not ok. More than ever, People of Color, 2SLGBTQ people, poor people and those with disabilities, continue to be politicized by white nationalist and religious extremists who proudly oppose inclusive and equitable spaces. Kina’s opponents contribute to these inequities by denying these groups humanity. The well-being of these marginalized students has been ignored for far too long. More ‘rigor’ is not the answer. As parents and members of this community it is our responsibility to silence the violence and harassment aimed towards them.
As a parent and former Board member, I can assure you, nothing means more to young people than seeing themselves reflected in those who have the power to influence change and can model better leadership.
