Good afternoon Friends of Sahli Nature Park!
My faithful scout Oliver and I thought an introduction would be in order for those who do not know my friend Oliver and i. I am Robert Weir, Bob works 😉, anyways a little history about me might be shed light on why I am so passionate about helping All those that call Sahli home and other wild places where life unfolds in such breathtaking beauty. My, my I count it a true blessing to be doing what I do now. Being a co-manager of Sahli Park is a dream come true. When I was in my late through early twenties I was referred to as Ranger Bob, a good friend of mine coined it. The outdoors with all that life out there, has always drawn me. Plus, I had a cool hat 😉. Lol. Memories... If you get the chance now that i have introduced myself and Oliver to you, please feel free to introduce yourself and share your passions to us next time you see us out and about.

What a beautiful day! Good morning Friends of Sahli Nature Park 🙂

As stated yesterday more to come concerning the health of Sahli's forest and the formation of an action plan to address the invasives that are threatening to take out a vast majority of the deciduous trees. Oak, cherry, and others are under immense pressure from the weight of the grape vines and the Oriental bittersweet, for now the gymnosperms are more at danger from the English ivy, especially around the main House.
Soon we will be setting some dates to address the issue. There will be hands on training and gear for the most part. More to come. ALERT no one is permitted to go out alone and try and handle. The Park is protected by the Hollow Oak Land Trust and the perpetual easement rules designed to protect the forest and her visitors. Plus, we who manage Sahli have some added rules for safety of for the wildlife and visitors and their pets. Please follow the rules. 🙏

Following are pics of pretty healthy oaks in our deciduous section of the forest and the area of same forest infested with the invasive vines. Starting at pic 7 i think 🤔. Added a flower at end, we need beauty in our lives. I believe over half of the older deciduous forest is under attack. It is a huge issue, exasperated by the extremely wet year.

Good afternoon Friends of Sahli Nature Park,
It has been a growing year for sure. Much beauty has come with all the moisture we have had, so much life. Hmmm, brings a smile to my face. Just 2 days ago saw one of our elusive Great horned Owls, then yesterday saw a Red Fox then some deer this morning and my little friend you will see in the following pics. T
Look for another e-mail very soon, I have been clearing trails the woods need human intervention or we lose them in time, as they are now. Invasives are the issue. They make the top mast so heavy the mighty Oaks snap under the weight add wind..... sad.... we have a plan and I will be looking for volunteers soon. But for now enjoy the day. I love the wet woods...😉 RGW

The Mushroom walk was very nice time. The variety of species is incredible. A huge shout out to the Western PA Mushroom Club, especially to the at least 9 identifiers that came, and to Dawn and Jennifer who coordinated and directed the whole event, they All were amazing!

Good afternoon Friends of Sahli Park,
For those who came to the Art in the Park event yesterday, thank you and what did you think of it 🤔
Pam and i so enjoyed all our interactions with most of the 230 people who visited the event. The food and beverage was excellent! Nothing like a home cooked meal while eating out. 😉😮‍💨
The Art themed event with a nugde towards the natural, was absolutely wonderful so many talented artist displaying and selling their creations.
Hmmm, maybe next year if missed 😉

Goodmorning Friends of Sahli Natire Park!

If you ever wanted to know a little more about our wonderful Park and the different life forms that reside there. This is a great opportunity to learn about the fungi present at Sahli. Should be a great walk i plan on attending. Sahli Park is a nature Park. We ask that the fruits of all plants, fungi trees and all other life be left to do their role in the whole ecosystem. The community as a whole is extremely important to keep in tack.
