The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge was created in 1946 as a political subdivision of the state of Louisiana to serve the citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish. BREC - a representative name of who we serve and what we do - has developed, maintained, and operated public park and recreational facilities for over 70 years. BREC was among the first park agencies to earn

national accreditation and recently earned reaccreditation for an unprecedented fifth time, meeting all 144 standards. BREC is a three-time National Gold Medal Award winner and 17-time national finalist.

Frenchtown Conservation Area Update 6.18.2026 - The river is currently above 30 ft. at the Amite/Comite confluence. Water levels will continue to be high until early next week. There is also very limited turn around locations at the approach to the park. Please continue to avoid the area until water recede.
