Goose Roundup!

Had a fun roundup on a golf course in Central Oklahoma a few nights ago. John Burns is an awesome photographer and got some great shots of the crew at work. All the photo credits are his except the release video on the end.

Honeybee removal

We have had a lot of questions about the process of removing honeybees from a wall or building without deconstructing the wall. The process is pretty simple. A cone is placed over the entrance to the hive. The bees can get out, but not back in. We then place a small hive near the entrance and put a frame of brood in it. When the bees can’t get back into their own hive, they move right in and set up house keeping in the new hive. Over the course of a week or so, all the bees leave the old hive and move into the new one.
Here is a video of the steps we did on a tree near the entrance to an apartment.
The second half of the problem is to remove the honey left behind when the bees leave. I will post another video about that process in the near future.

🐢 Back with another Creature Feature Friday!

The snapping turtle is one of the oldest reptiles in North America, with ancestors dating back millions of years! These prehistoric-looking turtles are commonly found in ponds, lakes, rivers, and creeks throughout Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and surrounding states.

Despite their tough reputation, snapping turtles spend most of their time underwater and would rather avoid people than fight. They play an important role in aquatic ecosystems and are an interesting part of the wildlife many pond owners encounter.

A few fun facts:

✅ Can live 30–50 years or more in the wild

✅ May weigh over 35 pounds, with some individuals growing much larger

✅ Strong jaws can deliver a powerful bite

✅ Excellent swimmers but surprisingly awkward on land

⚠️ Snapping turtles should never be handled unless you are a trained professional. Their powerful bite and defensive nature can cause serious injury when handled improperly.

Snapping turtles are just one of the many fascinating creatures that call our ponds and lakes home.

The 2026 Canada goose relocation season is in full swing. I have not done well at filming some of the great roundups we have had so far, but there are plenty of oppotunities to make up for lost time.

Tonight we did a very elegant golf course in Tulsa. There were two separate groups of geese, and here is the first group. 35 adult geese and four almost grown goslings. They were very calm and cooperated very well. Lets hope they all go this way!

FOXY TIME!

I have a good friend who had a fox living in his neighborhood that was causing problems. For the most part, this neighborhood likes their foxes and the foxes don't cause any problems, but this one has taken to attacking small dogs and other pets. He needed a new home away from people.

It took a few days and we had to get through the overpopulation of raccoons and opossums, but last night he finally cooperated.

Here is a brief video of his capture and release in the country.

There are 7 subspecies of Canada geese in North America. The one we deal with at this time of year is the Giant Canada goose subspecies (the rest have migrated north to nest). Unlike the other 6 subspecies, the Giant Canada goose does not migrate. They have minimal homing instinct. If you move them to another area, they acclimate there quickly and they don't come back.
The Giant Canada goose was suspected to be extinct in the mid 1900s, and was declared extinct in the 1950s. Then a small flock was found on a golf course in Rochester Minnesota. All of the Giant Canada geese we see every day have descended from this small handful of geese.
Fun Fact: Oklahoma decided that we wanted Giant Canada geese and traded Minnesota turkey eggs for Canada Goose eggs. Yep, that's right. We introduced these geese on purpose!

During the month of June, Canada geese lose the ability to fly due to molting their flight feathers. During this time, Predator Impact brings in kayakers, portable corrals, and specially designed trailers. We round them up like cattle and relocate them at least 100 miles to a location designated by the OK Dept of Wildlife. There they spend the summer regrowing their flight feathers and, when they can fly again, they are acclimated to the new location and do not return.
