Welcome to Part 5 of Get to Know Your Future Representative. I'm a first generation Mainer. I'm originally from New Jersey, but not the suburban side that everyone thinks of. I grew up in the rural northwest corner.

Now some people may accuse me of "growing up privileged" because my father was a physician who worked a lot, which afforded my mother the ability to stay home and raise me, my brother, and two sisters. I still had responsibilities as any child does. I helped clean the house, mow the yard, take care of the pets, split wood. I will admit that there were things I did that I otherwise would not have been able to do had I not had the parents that I did. I went to a private high school, and most importantly, it delayed the necessity of figuring out what to do with my life, which has had both upsides and downsides.

Labor Day isn't just about the blue collar worker, it's everyone who helps keep Maine and this country running by clocking in and going to work whether they want to or not.

Augusta keeps making it worse for the working class. The cost of electricity is among the highest in the country, we're in the top 5 for overall tax burden, our schools are failing our kids, and what do we get? Politicians that play lip service to workers. They keep finding new ways to make our lives more difficult and call it progress.

Labor Day is supposed to honor the people who build, fix, and keep this state running. The least we owe them is a legislature that actually makes their lives easier instead of harder.

That's why I'm running.

Everyone struggling with addiction is someone's daughter or son. That's worth remembering as we talk about the hard stuff: needle exchanges, open drug use, and the safety concerns that come with them.

Drug use and homelessness are frequently two sides of the same coin. You can't fix one without addressing the other. Our community cannot continue on the current path.

I recently spoke with a gentleman about Recoverypalooza, an event where people share their stories of recovery and the options available to them. I'm not entirely sure what to expect, but if people want help, they ought to be able to get it. I'm going to go listen.

Welcome to Part 4 of my "get to know me" series, how I got into politics. I've never hidden the fact that I'm not an original Mainer, and I've never put on a fake persona. This is me, though I do use more expletives in real life, especially at work. I know there's a time and place for that.

I've done a lot of different things. I've failed at some and succeeded at others. This is about helping you get to know me, and hopefully trust that I can represent you well in Augusta.

I was recently asked why am I running? I don't think I've explicitly addressed it, but here's the honest start of an answer.

Ask yourself: are you better off than you were 7-8 years ago? That's when Janet Mills became governor.

For a lot of us, the answer is no. Property taxes keep increasing. Electricity cost is almost double the national average. Our schools are failing our children. The State has refused to accept the reality that the programs they have instituted to address homelessness, drug use, and safety are not working.

This is not bad luck. This is the result of choices made by the people currently in charge. The consequences of their decisions apparently do not affect them. It certainly affects us.

I'm running because we deserve better ones.

If you are a fan of baked goods (let's be real who isn't?) there are girls raising money for a cheer trip on the corner of Pearl St and Mount Hope.

There is no need to be on the Far Side... Unless you are Gary Larson.

IYKYK. I'll see myself out.
