The Coalition of Black Police Officers, Inc., (The Coalition) is a non-profit organization established in 1974 by African-American officers of the Montgomery County, MD Police Department. The founders and other black officers fought racial discrimination and formed the Coalition to fight for equal treatment for all. These officers fought with legal ammunition and withstood oppression to gain equal
rights. As the battle continued, African-American officers began realizing opportunities to become detectives and officers in specialized units, as well as promotions. The Executive Board of the Coalition consists of the President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Chaplain, and Sergeant-at-Arms. The Coalition is also known as the Montgomery County chapter of the National Black Police Association (NBPA) and is a member of the Eastern Region of the NBPA.
