Each year, thousands of people are bitten by ticks. Tick activity increases during warmer weather, and ticks are commonly found in grassy, brushy, and wooded areas. Even spending time in your own backyard can lead to tick exposure. 🏡

After outdoor activities, do a full-body tick check and inspect pets, clothing, and gear too. Early tick removal can help reduce the risk of tick-borne illness.

Lead exposure isn’t always obvious, but even small amounts can harm a child’s growth, behavior, and ability to learn.

Children under 6 years of age are most at risk, often from lead dust caused by old paint. Lead dust can also build up on floors and windowsills, hands, and toys. ⚠️

Childhood lead poisoning is preventable, follow these tips to help protect your family:
▪️Keep children away from peeling paint and renovations.
▪️Wash hands, toys, and windowsills regularly.
▪️Avoid play in soil near older buildings and roadways.

May is Hepatitis Awareness Month! Did you know that not all forms of hepatitis are vaccine preventable, but some are! 👍

Viral hepatitis is an infection that affects the liver. The most common types are hepatitis A, B, and C.

🔹Hepatitis A is a contagious illness that spreads through close person-to-person contact or by consuming contaminated food or drink. It typically causes a mild, short-term illness.
🔹Hepatitis B and C can become long-term infections and may lead to serious liver disease.
🔹Vaccines are available for hepatitis A and B, but not for hepatitis C.

Regardless of your age or experience level, the data shows that life jackets save lives. 🛟

Before heading out on the water, make sure you’re wearing a life jacket every time. Accidents can happen quickly, and there often isn’t time to grab one if it’s stowed away.

Choose a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket that fits properly and is right for your activity. A proper fit makes all the difference.
