Kevin John McAleese Foundation

Kevin John McAleese Foundation Our mission is to honor Kevin's legacy through allocating grants to families in need of financial aid

Through your generous donations, the KJM Foundation donates funding to a namesake patient and family respite center at University of Pennsylvania's Abramson Cancer Center’s Glioblastoma Center of Excellence. KJMF also awards research grants to find a cure for Glioblastoma, and provides patient-family financial assistance.

The Kevin John McAleese Foundation is entering a new chapter.

In the year ahead, our priorities are clear:

Expand scholarship funding for women pursuing higher education.
Deepen support for children and families affected by glioblastoma.
Grow our Thanksgiving and holiday wish list programs to reach more families.
Build a sustainable donor base that carries the mission beyond a single gala night.

Kevin's legacy is not a memory. It is an active, living commitment to the people and causes he believed in most — service, education, women's empowerment, and the families cancer tries to erase.

If you want to be part of what we are building, there are two ways:

Give: kevinjohnmcaleesefoundation.org/donate
Follow: this page for foundation updates, scholar spotlights, and community impact.

This is just the beginning.

We need to be honest about something.

The Kevin John McAleese Foundation does its best fundraising around our biannual gala. The energy is high. The community shows up. The donations flow.

But scholarships are awarded year-round. Families need support year-round. Holiday programs require planning months in advance. And the operational work of running a foundation doesn't pause between events.

We are asking for sustained giving — not just event-night generosity.

$25 a month funds school supplies for a glioblastoma family's child.
$50 a month contributes directly to a scholarship fund.
$100 a month helps us plan community programs without scrambling.

Kevin gave consistently. Every day. In service, in leadership, in his commitment to women and education.

We are asking you to give the same way.

The Kevin John McAleese Foundation is more than scholarships.

Every year, we provide Thanksgiving meals for families in need and fulfill holiday wish lists for children who deserve to know someone is thinking about them.

These programs exist because Kevin understood something fundamental: you cannot educate a child who is hungry, and you cannot inspire a family that feels forgotten.

Our community programs are funded entirely by individual donors. No government grants. No corporate sponsors filling a quota. Just people who believe that showing up for a family during the hardest time of year is worth doing.

The holiday season will be here before we know it. Early giving makes early planning possible.

In the year America celebrates 250 years of independence, we honor a man who spent his life in service to this country.

Colonel Kevin John McAleese served in the United States Army. He led the Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Foundation. He believed that women's access to higher education was a national security issue — because an educated population is a stronger one.

As we mark the semiquincentennial, the Kevin John McAleese Foundation recommits to his vision: scholarships for women, support for glioblastoma families, and the belief that service does not end with a single lifetime.

His service continues through yours.

A scholarship is not just tuition. It is permission to keep going.

For a young woman who lost her father to glioblastoma, a scholarship from the Kevin John McAleese Foundation says: we see you, we remember him, and your education still matters.

For a first-generation college student pursuing a degree her family never had access to, it says: someone believed in this before you did.

Every dollar donated to KJM Foundation goes directly toward funding these moments. There is no corporate overhead machine. There is a mission, a board, and families who need support.

If Kevin's story moves you — if you believe women's education and cancer family support deserve funding — your donation makes it real.

Glioblastoma is the most aggressive form of brain cancer. The median survival after diagnosis is 12 to 18 months.

Kevin John McAleese — Army Colonel, institutional leader, champion of women's education — was diagnosed with glioblastoma. He fought with the same discipline he brought to everything in his life.

What most people don't talk about is what happens to the families left behind. The children who watched a parent disappear into treatment. The spouses managing grief and logistics simultaneously. The financial devastation that follows.

The Kevin John McAleese Foundation exists to ensure those families are not invisible. We fund scholarships for the children of glioblastoma patients and provide direct support to families navigating the aftermath.

No family should face this alone.

Colonel Kevin John McAleese served his country, led institutions, and championed women long before it was a talking point.

As a U.S. Army Colonel and CEO of the Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Foundation — part of the Miss America Organization — Kevin dedicated his life to two things: service and the advancement of women through education.

In 2026, as our nation marks its 250th anniversary, we honor his legacy by continuing what he started: funding scholarships for women pursuing higher education and supporting the families of those affected by glioblastoma.

The Kevin John McAleese Foundation exists because his work didn't end with his passing. It lives in every scholarship awarded, every child supported, and every family reminded that they are not forgotten.

From Miss Philadelphia to Miss Pennsylvania to the Miss America stage.

Stephanie Skinner is making history — and it started on the same platform Kevin John McAleese spent years building as CEO of the Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Foundation.

Kevin believed the scholarship system was the engine. The crown was the visibility. The education was the point.

Watching Stephanie open for the FIFA World Cup and represent Pennsylvania on the national stage is exactly the kind of moment Kevin worked to make possible — women prepared, empowered, and unstoppable.

This is his legacy in motion.

We are so proud of you, Stephanie.

Gifting Hope Through Education

This season, we’re hearing from children and families whose lives have been forever changed by glioblastoma—yet they are still choosing hope and pursuing higher education.

Through the Kevin John McAleese Foundation, we support students navigating unimaginable loss while trying to move forward.

One parent shared:
“This scholarship reminds my child that their future still matters.”

As we close out the year, the need is urgent.
If you’re able to give, your support helps us say yes to students who need it most.
