There was nothing spectacular about Mom that makes her case any more important than other m*rders that occurred in 1991, or in any year, for that matter. The media is biased in which cases they cover and which ones they ignore. Her m*rder was unusual in that she was st@bbed 21 times in a brutal attack. Mom was a well-liked member of her community, a substitute teacher, a church member, and the Mother of five. A lifelong resident of the same town. Why did she get only a handful of newspaper articles?
❓Was it because she was m*rdered in a predominantly black neighborhood?
❓Was it because she was overweight and didn’t have the right looks?
❓Was it because she was not upper class?
Victims' families are just trying to navigate the unthinkable, and for most of them it leaves a lifetime unfinished. They certainly should not have to deal with being ignored by the police, often for years. They should feel heard when they call or email with information they feel is important. Yet, more common is hearing, "They won’t call me back," or "I have waited weeks, months, years." If you have waited, I am so sorry. If you haven’t, I pray you never know the torture of the only people who can help you get your loved one justice ignoring you FOR YEARS.
Janice was my Momma, and the glue that held our family together. Of course, I will tell you she was very intelligent, funny, witty, beautiful, loving, kind, and forgiving. Almost everyone she met would say the same things about her. That shouldn't make her more worthy of Truth and Justice; I share who she was to keep her memory alive. Janice was my Momma, she is loved and missed.
