Chamber member Feat of feat of clay artists' co-op gallery is hosting Variations on Fall, a painting workshop led by local artist Patrice DeLorenzo of Patrice DeLorenzo Fine Art. Music and memory come together on the canvas as you explore color washes, glazes, and impasto techniques, building two completed fall studies to take home.
Best suited for intermediate and advanced painters, and beginners with some painting experience.
Sunday, October 11
11 AM to 3:30 PM
Feat of Clay Artists Co Op Art Gallery, 222 N. Main Ave, Aztec
Workshop fee is $150. Spaces are limited, so register early by calling Patrice at 970.799.8838.

Variations on Fall: A Painting Workshop
For intermediate and advanced painters, and beginners with some painting experience.

Join Patrice DeLorenzo for an immersive afternoon where music and memory become paint. Throughout the workshop, Patrice will present a curated selection of fall-themed musical compositions, both classical and contemporary, as inspiration for our work at the easel.

Drawing on photographs, memories, and the feelings this season stirs, you'll build a painting the way a composer builds a piece of music: in layers, movements, and moments of quiet and intensity. We'll explore color washes, transparent and dry glazes, light impasto, and pentimento — techniques that let a painting hold traces of its own history, layer over layer, much like a musical composition unfolds over time.

It's often said that Claude Debussy drew inspiration from Impressionist painting when composing some of his most evocative works. In this workshop, we bring that relationship full circle, letting music guide us back into the visual realm from which it may have first taken its cue.

This workshop is intermediate-to-advanced in technique but open to anyone ready to paint intuitively and let feeling lead the brush. Participants should have a comfort level with using paintbrushes and applying paint. If you're brand new to painting, I'd love to have you join me in a future workshop designed specifically for beginners — keep an eye out for that one.

What to Expect
This is a small group, with each person having a deep desire to learn. You'll receive clear guidance and instruction, along with the personal attention that ensures you get the best and most from this creative experience. I'll demonstrate numerous techniques throughout the day, along with examples of how I've used them in my own paintings — and I'll be there as an instructor passionate about teaching and painting, dedicated to helping you trust yourself — honing the experience and intuition you already carry, and learning to follow where your creative spirit wants to go.

At the end of the day, you'll take home two completed fall studies, each built using a different approach and its own set of application techniques.

Techniques We'll Explore
• Color washes • Transparent color glazes
• Dry glazes • Scumbling • Pentimento
• Impasto

Details: Sunday, October 11, 2026

11 AM to 3:30 PM at Feat of Clay Artists’ Co-Op Art Gallery at 222 N. Main Ave, Aztec, NM 87410

The workshop fee of $150 may be paid in cash, check, credit card, or Venmo. A list of supplies will be provided to you when you register with Patrice by phone. All fees are due at the time of registration.

I'll be painting and demonstrating using acrylic paint, and I suggest you also work in acrylic. Some of you may work in oil, as long as you're proficient in that medium — its slower drying time will prevent you from doing some of the techniques we'll cover. Acrylic is such a fast-drying medium that we'll be able to do all of the listed techniques, should we choose to.

I've been looking forward to offering this class for quite some time, and I'm excited for you to join me! Spaces are limited so that everyone receives the best and most from our time together.

Please join us in welcoming two wonderful new members to our Chamber board, Amanda Mangold and Dr. Gabrielle Atencio.

Amanda is an AVP and Relationship Manager at Four Corners Community Bank, where she has spent the past seven years being a real resource for local business owners navigating their lending and banking needs. Gabrielle is a Doctor of Chiropractic who owns and operates Aztec Chiropractic Center, helping members of our community feel and function at their best while championing the local business owners around her.

Both of them are already such strong supporters of our business community, and we could not be more excited to have their energy, ideas, and dedication on our board. Here is to even more growth and support for our members and this community we love.

Two of our Chamber members are teaming up, and we wanted to help spread the word. Rusted Rose Studios is hosting a clay class and just needs two more people to sign up to make it happen, and they will be holding it at feat of clay artists' co-op gallery here in Aztec.
Classes are Thursday, September 17 and 24, at 6 PM both days. Cost is $45 for both sessions, and all materials are included.
If you have been wanting to try something new, this is a great chance to support two local businesses at once while learning a new skill from Rusted Rose Studios in a fun, low pressure setting.
Check out their post below for all the details and to grab one of the last spots!
