Avondale Fire & Medical celebrated the grand opening of the new Fire Station 171 with a traditional hose uncoupling and bell ceremony. The bell has long been a proud symbol of the fire service — once signaling the start of a shift, the call to action, and the solemn toll honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

On Monday, its ringing marked something new — the beginning of a fresh chapter for Avondale’s Historic Neighborhoods. The new station will officially open for service on November 12, with crews continuing to respond from the current station until then.

Avondale City Council declared this week Fire Prevention Week, and this year’s theme focuses on Lithium-Ion Battery Safety.
When using or charging devices:
âś… Buy electronics with safety certifications (UL, ETL, or CSA).
⚠️ Avoid cheap, uncertified products.
🔥 Charge safely—keep devices away from exits, flammables, and extreme heat.
👂 Watch for warning signs like swelling, smoke, or hissing—stop using immediately.
♻️ Recycle batteries properly—never throw them in the trash!
If a fire starts, get out and call 9-1-1.

🚨 Tomorrow — Sept. 30, there will be a citywide test of the Avondale Alert system. If you’re signed up, you’ll get a test message by text, call, or email that starts with: TEST TEST TEST. The City will also post simulated messages on its website and social media to confirm the system is working. ⚠️ Remember: official alerts will only come from the City of Avondale. Don’t fall for scams.
