Another great day spent helping the community with great people! Thank you to Ashford Lions Club all of the volunteers that helped season, cook, wrap, clean, and more. Y’all are great!!!

Also, another big thank you to Tracy Adams - Houston County Commissioner District 2 for coming out to help support the Ashford Youth Sports Association! Tracy thought he was coming to buy ribs. But we put him to work!

We cooked and sold A LOT of ribs and Boston butts. I spent a lot of time sweating over those smokers. Hope y’all enjoy it!!!

Over the last few weeks, as the Highway 84 intersection project has been completed, we wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the updated traffic controls now in place.

There are stop signs at the intersection, and motorists are required to come to a complete stop before proceeding. A complete stop means all forward movement of the vehicle has stopped prior to entering the intersection.

We understand many drivers have traveled this route for years and may still be adjusting to the changes. These updates were implemented as part of the state’s intersection improvements and are intended to help increase overall traffic safety.

Please remain alert, pay attention to all posted signs, and use caution when traveling through the area.

Thank you for helping keep Ashford safe.

Need to clear the air on something.

There is a lot of false information going around regarding what county commissioners can do. A county commissioner has no jurisdiction to make any changes inside of a town. They can not do anything to a town’s water system, can not pave town owned roads, can not clean ditch’s alongside town roads, and most certainly can not have fire hydrants installed inside of a town/city. They also can not clean ditches or do any form of construction along state owned roads like Hwy 84.

Now, on county maintained/owned roads they most certainly are responsible for paving and cleaning ditches.

If anyone would like any more clarity on this, I am more than happy to speak with anyone.

Another devastating fire in our area last night. Fortunately no one was hurt in this one. But this is the second major structure fire in a week.

Thank you to all of the first responders on scene helping this family!

This does not affect any Avon water customers.

But if you are in Ashford please be respectful and follow this notice. I know that it is not ideal but it is protecting the current well and potentially people’s safety.

This is another reminder:

At this time, all outdoor water use is to be stopped immediately to help maintain stable water levels across our system.

This is an important step to ensure continued reliable service for all residents.

We appreciate everyone working together.

I would love for everyone to not just read this but please share it as well. I want people to understand how the county and municipalities work together.

Last Saturday in the middle of the rain storm I received a call from Tracy Adams - Houston County Commissioner District 2 letting me know that he ran into a resident from Forrester Rd in Avon and they were complaining about how muddy it had gotten with the rain. After leaving work, I went by to look at it and saw it was awful. I immediately called Tracy back and he told me to call Houston County Road & Bridge first thing Monday morning and he would talk with them as well. At 6:45 Monday morning I was on the phone with them and was told that they would look at it quickly. By 9:30 that morning I was contacted, an engineer had been out to look at it, and had a plan for helping us with it. Weather permitting they were going to start Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, the weather did not allow that to happen. But it was started as quickly as the weather allowed. Because of Chairman Brandon Shoupe and a policy that completely supports us small towns with Houston County’s resources, we were able to scrape the mud off the road, haul in new fresh dirt, grade it, compacted it, hauled in many dump truck loads of gravel, and then spread it. As a small municipality with very little funds, we would never be able to do this on our own.

I can’t thank our incredible team with the county enough!
