Memorial Day. Remember and honor all our troops that have been lost. Take a moment to think of them when you are having barbeques and heading to the beach.
It was a pleasure to attend the Memorial Day service this morning at Hatteras UMC. Many thanks to the CHSS band for playing all the US Military Hymns, thank you to all the service men and women who attended, and thank you to all who planned and participated in the service. 🙏

Speed limits dropped to 35 on many areas on Hatteras Island today, watch your speed!

Today was the day! Our crews were out changing signs along sections of NC12 where seasonal speed limits are in place. Please be aware of increased traffic, bicyclists and pedestrians as we head into the busy season. Let's make it a safe summer!

What a difference a day makes! It was beautiful today, a little breezy with temps in the mid 60s. Looks like we are in for pretty weather the rest of the week. ☀️

Monday, May 11, 5:15 pm update: We are experiencing some gusty winds. Ferry operations are currently suspended. If you are driving between Pea Island and Oregon Inlet, expect blowing sand and possibly some areas of accumulated sand on the roadway after dark.
