Revolutionizing how we train starts with innovating how we house our force. 🇺🇸✨

Stepping into the future of military housing and training support, Fort Bliss leadership held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the first of 10 state-of-the-art, 3D-printed transient training barracks on the installation.

This project is the Department of War’s largest deployment of robotic construction to date. Replacing aging structures with energy-resilient, high-quality buildings ensures Soldiers have the world-class living spaces they deserve to rest, reset, and maintain peak readiness.

The printing phase for all 10 buildings took just 58 days, completing construction at four times the speed of traditional methods!

These new barracks will immediately house members of Task Force Bastogne supporting Joint Task Force - Southern Border (Operation Ardent Vanguard). When they finish a demanding shift, Soldiers will return to permanent, resilient housing closely located to gyms, dining facilities, and recreation areas.

How do you build the next generation of autonomous swarm engineers for national security? You start them young and give them the hardware to succeed. 🚁

The U.S. Army DEVCOM Army Research Laboratory (ARL) recently partnered with UC Berkeley and Berkeley Drone Technologies for the inaugural Multi-Drone Optimization Challenge (M-DOC) at the Richmond Field Station. Funded by the Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP), this event challenged high school and college students to master the complete engineering lifecycle of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Key highlights from the challenge include:

☑️ Assembling and programming drones from preassigned kits.

☑️ Developing and deploying autonomous swarm software for zone mapping.

☑️ Analyzing the operational and economic trade-offs of multi-drone systems versus single-drone flights.

🚨 G-TEAD USARPAC ACE 27-01: Autonomous Sustainment powered by xTech is launching a call for autonomous delivery tech built to sustain distributed forces across contested island chains.

Announcing G-TEAD USARPAC ACE 27-01: Autonomous Sustainment, powered by Army FUZE xTech and delivered in partnership with U.S. Army Pacific (USARPAC). This competition offers a total prize pool of $1.5M in non‑dilutive cash prizes for autonomous air and ground delivery solutions engineered for complex maritime, littoral, and land environments.

The competition is seeking ready‑to‑deploy (TRL 6+) autonomous delivery systems that can operate with minimal oversight, reduce logistical burden, enhance mobility, and integrate seamlessly with Army sustainment and command‑and‑control (C2) systems to strengthen distributed operations at the tactical edge.

💰 Up to 15 finalists will be awarded $25,000 and invited to participate in a live Soldier exercise event with the U.S. Army and U.S. Department of War in November 2026 at Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center in Hawaii. Finalists whose technology is integrated in the exercise will earn an additional $25,000. Up to 5 winners will receive $150,000 each and gain access to potential pathways for follow‑on agreements and contracting opportunities.

Finalists may be selected for leave‑behind testing that could lead to other transaction agreements (OTAs) with a total funding pool of up to $2M, accelerating technology maturation and adoption at the tactical edge.

Andrew Barisser, an AI machine-learning engineer, directly commissioned as Major into the U.S. Army Reserve.

Maj Barisser spent years building his career in software engineering and artificial intelligence in the private tech sector, the kind of specialized, in demand experience the Army is actively looking to bring in as it modernizes. He commissioned through the U.S. Army's Direct Commission Program (DCP), which allows qualified civilian professionals to enter as officers at a rank that reflects their real world experience.

It's one of the clearest examples of how the U.S. Army is opening doors for outside expertise. Programs like DCP mean the U.S. Army doesn't have to choose between experienced talent and traditional officer training pipelines, it can bring in both. Maj Barisser summed up his own decision to serve by pointing to a sense of shared responsibility, one he sees as belonging to everyday people willing to actively participate in protecting what matters.

Leadership isn't handed out. It is built in ROTC classrooms, on training fields, and at Cadet Summer Training.

Every year, ROTC programs across the country take college students and put them through leadership labs, physical training, land navigation, and tactical exercises designed to test judgment under pressure. It's where Cadets first learn to make a call, own the outcome, and lead people through uncertainty, skills that will define how they lead Soldiers for the rest of their careers.

The Army's investment in ROTC isn't just about filling officer ranks. It's about shaping the kind of leader who understands responsibility before they're ever required to carry it. That's the foundation this entire force is built on, and it starts years before the commission.

Today, Andrew Barisser, an AI machine-learning engineer directly commissioned as Major into the US Army Reserve.

“I don’t believe responsibility belongs to someone else. I believe it belongs to all of us, ordinary people who choose to become active participants in preserving our society.” - Maj Barisser

Barisser spent years building a career in software engineering and artificial intelligence in the private sector, developing deep technical expertise that is now in high demand across the Army's modernization efforts.

His path into the U.S. Army came through the Army's Direct Commission Program (DCP), which grants constructive service credit for relevant civilian experience so that qualified professionals can enter as officers at a rank aligned with their talent. It is one of the ways the Army is bringing outside expertise directly into the force.
