This week we are saying a “goodbye and good luck” to our good friend, coworker, and District 7 Constituent Liaison, Sarah Swallow, as she transitions to a new, exciting role with the City.
And it comes with an appropriate send off: at our final meeting of the spring, Council passed a resolution that aims to tackle one of the first— and trickiest— issues that came across the D7 Constituent Liaison desk.
Several residents reported being woken up late at night or early in the morning, sometimes multiple times a week, from the commercial garbage dumpsters being emptied close to their homes. As most things tend to be, this issue was not as straightforward to fix. Sarah was exhaustive in her search for solutions, which ultimately led us to passing Item 52 on yesterdays agenda, which directs the City Manager to develop recommendations for amendments to City regulations to prohibit dumpster collection activities at unreasonable hours near residential properties.
We are very grateful to have had a constituent advocate like Sarah as a part of our team, and we know she will continue to serve the people of Austin well in her new role! 👏
