Historically, DACA renewals took just a few weeks. Right now, hundreds of thousands of DACA recipients across the country (including myself) are seeing delays of 5 months or more.
Today, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reports that the average renewal takes at least 3.5 months, with many cases stretching far longer. Because of these severe delays, thousands of highly qualified, hard-working people are watching our DACA protections expire while our applications sit untouched.
This means losing our jobs, our healthcare, our financial stability, and your peace of mind overnight — all through no fault of our own.
Why is this happening now? Advocacy groups like the National Immigration Law Center (NILC) point to several reasons: the return of mandatory, time-consuming biometric fingerprinting appointments, severe systemic agency backlogs, and recent administration policy directives that have placed sweeping holds on the majority of applicant reviews.
We cannot wait on a broken system to protect us while our livelihoods are actively on the line. That is why Buenas Lotería Club is officially pivoting our focus from DACA renewals. Moving forward, our ticket proceeds will fund a DACA Emergency Relief Fund for Texas-based DACA recipients experiencing immediate financial loss and job displacement due to these processing delays.
Have you or someone you know been impacted by these current renewal delays? 🔗 Fill out the form in the link in our bio.
