The two individuals pictured are legitimate book sellers and will be in and around Kennebec County. The one the left is Aden Sprat who drives a white 2016 Toyota Camery with Illinois registration. Alexander Ornelas is picture on the right, and he will be operating a 2022 Nissan Altima with Texas plates. The two took the time to come into the office to let us know they would be in the county, showing us all necessary documents. Sheriff Mason

We are deeply saddened and would like to offer our sincere condolences to Warden Pilot Tibbets family, friends, and co-workers.

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is heartbroken to share that Game Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts died this morning in a plane crash in Avon, ME.

Game Warden Pilot Tibbetts served the people of Maine as a Maine Game Warden for 18 years, including the last three years as a pilot for Maine Warden Service. In that role, his specialized aviation work supported search and rescue, law enforcement, fisheries and wildlife conservation, and public safety across the state.

This is an incredibly difficult loss for his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Maine Warden Service. We ask the public to keep his loved ones, his fellow Game Wardens, and all those affected by this tragedy in their thoughts in the days ahead.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. The Department will cooperate fully with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

We are grateful for the emergency personnel who responded to the scene and for the support already being shown to the Maine Warden Service family.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as National Police Week. During this time, we remember and honor those law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. We also recognize those who continue to bravely wear the badge and continue to serve the communities.

Sheriff Mason would like to take this opportunity to thank all the deputies at the Sheriff's Office for their service to the community and the great job they are doing.

This year, the Maine Chiefs of Police Memorial Committee received an application to have an additional name inscribed on the memorial wall. • Perley C. Kennie, Westbrook Police Department – Died on August 11, 1966, after suffering a heart attack while on duty, carrying a pregnant woman to the emergency room at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Please be advised that a portion of State Street in Augusta on the front side of the State office complex where the Memorial is located will be shut down during the ceremony from 9:30 am to 11:30am. This is a public event people are welcome to attend.

Sheriff Mason and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office wish to publicly recognize the critical role correction officers serve in protecting our community. Although they are often unseen by the public, they are heroes none the less. Our team exemplify professionalism, integrity, and strength in the face of a difficult and often dangerous work environment. Our criminal justice system would fail without them. We wish to take this opportunity, during National Corrections Week, to say thank you to our corrections officers.
