Celebrating the accomplishments of students and young people gives me great hope for the success of our community and State. Big shout out to the 8th grade graduates of Fort Fairfield Middle/High School (my alma mater☺️!) who received their diplomas on Monday (6/15). 35 eighth graders, along with a number of 6th and 7th graders who excelled in various subjects, accepted awards, including Simon Moirs who was chosen for the statewide Citizenship Award for FF. The award is presented to the student who understands the importance of academic success and strives to make contributions to their community. Moirs is involved in everything from athletics to music and has a reputation for being reliable and trustworthy. Character counts! Congratulations Simon!

The skies turned bright blue just in time for the big Ducks Unlimited event in Fort Fairfield on Saturday (6/13). A huge crowd was on hand to enjoy the music, bidding on sporting items, food (provided by Maple Pig), fishing derby and building duck boxes! (Materials provided by SW Collins). The fundraiser's mission is to support conserving habitat. DU is the world's largest private waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization which values our hunting heritage.

Senator Bernard joins Members of the Loring Development Authority in thanking military officials for choosing Loring to conduct Operation Northern Phoenix. The exercise, which wrapped up June 12, tested how quickly the military and support teams can set up and sustain air operations at the former air force base.

A safe landing in Luxembourg makes history! My balloonist friends, Bert Padelt, Peter Cuneo and Alicia Hempleman-Adams touched down at approximately 3 a.m EDT yesterday (6/7). They have broken world records in their hydrogen-filled balloon which launched from Presque Isle and floated across the Atlantic! Love sharing this positive, exciting news. Senator Bernard visits with balloonists attempting to cross the Atlantic in an open-basket hydrogen-filled balloon. Pilot and balloon manufacturer Bert Padelt (far right), Peter Cuneo (middle) and Alicia Hempleman-Adams, all accomplished balloonists, will ride the wind in the Atlantic Explorer 2026 which launched from Presque Isle on Thursday, 6/4.

Since 1978 as a media crew member for the Double Eagle II helium balloon's successful trip from Presque Isle to Europe, Senator Bernard has had an interest in ballooning. While she was reporting on that historic flight for WAGM TV, Vesely was reporting in Albuquerque, NM, home of the Double Eagle II pilots. Wednesday's visit brought the story full circle with Thursday's launch.

It was wonderful to be able to attend the Rosary rally held by Prince of Peace Young Adult Ministry in the Hall of Flags last week. I had the opportunity to catch up with Bishop Ruggieri and deliver the closing prayer. It's encouraging to see young people engaging with their faith!
