Flags In.

Memorial Day is our opportunity to remember our fellow Americans who never came home.

We honor the fallen, and we remember their families. Their ultimate sacrifice has provided and preserved our freedoms, our self-determination, and our ability to freely practice those freedoms each day.

Thank you.

This past Tuesday, the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners had the honor of recognizing the outstanding service, leadership, and community spirit of some amazing citizens in the 7th District who received awards as part of the Birch Run Bridgeport Chamber "Best of Awards". We also proudly recognized Diane Martindale, recipient of the 2025 Birch Run Citizen of the Year Award, for her exceptional leadership of Birch Run students and the broader community.
Congratulations as well to Sarah Archer, recipient of the 2025 Birch Run Rotarian of the Year Award, for her servant heart and continued commitment to making a positive difference through Rotary.

Last Tuesday, the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners proudly recognized Barb Robertson and her son Benny, founders of Kernel Benny's Popcorn Frankenmuth, for their well-deserved honor at the 2025 Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism.

This recognition places Barb & Benny among Michigan’s most respected tourism leaders—those who not only attract visitors, but also make lasting impressions through authentic, people-centered experiences. On behalf of Saginaw County, congratulations Barb—we are grateful for all that you do.

A big thank you to my colleagues on the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners for supporting this recognition, and to Jamie Furbush, CEO of the Frankenmuth Chamber of Commerce, for capturing this special moment in the photo.

Last Tuesday, I had the privilege of visiting the Birch Run Rotary Club to provide an update on the work of Saginaw County Government. In the photo, I’m pictured with Rotary Club President Gene Hopp, along with our guests from Ontario — Earl Provost, Agent General of Ontario, and Carson Markley, Trade Agent.

My presentation highlighted the many ways Saginaw County serves its residents each day — from public safety and 911 services, to mosquito abatement and animal control, to commission on aging programs, public health initiatives, and parks and recreation opportunities.

I also shared updates on our county budget, courthouse modernization, IT and cybersecurity improvements, and the steps we’re taking to ensure efficient, transparent, and fiscally responsible operations.

I’m thankful to the Rotary for the invitation to speak and for their ongoing dedication to service in our community. Together, through collaboration and stewardship, we can continue to strengthen the quality of life for families and businesses across Birch Run, Frankenmuth, Taymouth, and all of Saginaw County.

I am deeply humbled to have been presented with the "Key to the City," a beautifully crafted beer stein, by the Mayor and City Council in acknowledgment of my service spanning from 2022 to 2024.

This token holds significant value as, in German and Bavarian traditions, beer steins epitomize hospitality, heritage, and unity—core principles that truly embody Frankenmuth. Similar to a symbolic key, the beer stein in our community signifies inclusivity and recognition, serving as a fitting tribute to public dedication.

Throughout the past two years, I have had the honor of collaborating with devoted leaders to work on our infrastructure, help local businesses, and cultivate partnerships that enrich the quality of life for residents in our city. Frankenmuth holds a special place in my heart, and I am thankful for the privilege to have contributed as a member of the City Council.

Although my tenure on the City Council has drawn to a close, my dedication to serving our area persists through my role as Saginaw County Commissioner. I extend my gratitude to my fellow members of the City Council, the Mayor, our City Manager and the residents of Frankenmuth for this remarkable acknowledgment—it will forever hold a special place in my heart.

A big thank you to Michigan House Speaker Matt Hall for taking time to meet with local business stakeholders to discuss the impacts of the changes to the tipped minimum wage and sick leave policies in Michigan.

We appreciate the leadership in the House to address these issues with the formation of the Select Committee on Protecting Michigan Employees and Small Businesses. Thank you to two of our Region’s legislators, Bill G. Schuette and Matthew Bierlein for serving on this committee; and to Rep. Schuette for serving as Chair.
