If you're smelling smoke or seeing haze in the Alpharetta or North Fulton area this morning , it's likely coming from a planned prescribed burn in the Abernathy/Macedonia area of Bartow County near Lake Allatoona. Park Rangers with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Bartow County Fire & Emergency Services conducted the burn today.

Air movement has caused the smoke to drift our direction. Smoke can settle in low areas as temperatures drop, so you may notice it throughout the morning.

A few reminders:
✅ If you see flames, or smoke coming from a home, building, or nearby woods, call 911.
✅ If you have asthma or other breathing concerns, limit time outdoors and keep windows closed.
✅ Please avoid calling 911 just to report the smell of smoke.

Stronger Together: North Fulton Police Chiefs Collaborate for Safer Communities

Today, the Alpharetta Police Department had the privilege of hosting the monthly North Fulton Chiefs of Police Meeting, bringing together law enforcement leaders from across North Fulton County, Georgia.

These meetings provide an important opportunity for police executives to strengthen regional partnerships, share information, discuss emerging public safety challenges, and collaborate on strategies that enhance crime prevention, community engagement, and the safety of those we serve.

We were pleased to bring together leadership from the following agencies:

Alpharetta Police Department – Chief Trent Lindgren

Roswell Police Department – Chief James Conroy

Milton Police Department – Chief Jason Griffin

Johns Creek Police Department – Chief Mark Mitchell

Sandy Springs Police Department – Chief Kenneth DeSimone (not pictured)

Fulton County Schools Police Department – Chief Mark Sulborski (not pictured)

While each agency serves a unique community, our commitment to public safety extends beyond jurisdictional boundaries. Through communication, cooperation, and shared leadership, we continue building a stronger, safer North Fulton.

Different agencies. Shared responsibilities. One commitment to public safety.

The City of Alpharetta hosted their annual Boo Bash event at Wills Park tonight and of course, we showed up ready for action!

There was a great turn out of excited and well-dressed folks who certainly earned their sweets and swag! So many clever costumes, but we have to admit… our “police costumed” friends may have gotten an extra piece of candy! Thanks for stopping by!

With Hurricane Isaias bringing the potential for strong winds, heavy rain and hazardous road conditions, we’re asking everyone to use good judgment and stay off the roads if you don’t need to be out. Even if conditions seem manageable in your neighborhood, weather can change quickly, and fallen trees, downed power lines and flooded roadways can create dangerous situations with little warning.

Our Alpharetta Police and Fire teams are prepared to respond to emergencies and will continue working to keep our community safe. Help us help you by making smart decisions before heading out.

A few reminders to help keep you and your family safe:

* Stay home if you can. Avoid unnecessary travel during periods of severe weather.
* Never drive through flooded roads. Turn around and find another route.
* Stay away from downed power lines and report them to the appropriate authorities.
* Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans and other loose items that could become dangerous in strong winds.
* Keep your phone charged and have flashlights and emergency supplies ready in case of a power outage.
* Check on family members and neighbors who may need extra help preparing.

Our first responders are ready to do their jobs, but your decisions can make a real difference, too. Please be smart, stay informed, and give yourself a reason to stay home rather than taking an unnecessary risk.

Stay safe, Alpharetta.

Well, it looks like the weather has other plans for Wire & Wood Songwriters Festival this weekend.

The good news? Music continues downtown tonight from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., weather permitting. We hope you’ll join us while conditions allow.

The hard news is that Saturday’s festival has been canceled due to the severe weather forecast. This was an incredibly difficult decision, and we know how much this weekend means to our songwriters, performers, vendors, partners and the community.

Wire & Wood has always been a rain-or-shine event, but this forecast is beyond your typical rainy festival day. With dangerous winds and severe conditions expected, tents, equipment and other structures could become hazards. Most importantly, we will not put the safety of our community, artists, vendors, volunteers or staff at risk.

With Georgia under a state of emergency, we encourage everyone to take the forecast seriously, follow guidance from emergency management officials, avoid unnecessary travel and please don’t take chances on the roads to attend an event.

We’re heartbroken to pull the plug on Saturday, but safety comes first. A heartfelt thank-you to our songwriters and musicians, event partners, vendors, volunteers, sponsors and the entire Alpharetta community for the time, talent, hard work and support that make Wire & Wood what it is. We’re grateful to everyone who helps bring original music to our streets and makes this festival special year after year.

Thank you for understanding and for being part of the Wire & Wood community.

Stay safe, Alpharetta.

On Friday, October 9, members of the Alpharetta Police Department, Alpharetta Fire Department and AMR Ambulance Service responded to a medical emergency at The Golf Club of Georgia off Windward Parkway.

Earlier that day, a landscaper was injured when his golf cart overturned while crossing a bridge on the property. The terrain near the ninth hole made it difficult for a traditional ambulance to reach him.

To help get the worker the care he needed, Alpharetta Fire brought in its specialized Mini Med vehicle, a Gator-style emergency response vehicle built to navigate tight spaces and rough terrain. Fire personnel deployed the vehicle from the Big Creek Greenway, reached the injured worker and transported him from the golf course fairway to a waiting ambulance for further medical care.

The incident remains under investigation.

While crews worked to reach and transport the worker, several members of the public stopped to express their concern for him. It was a thoughtful gesture and a reminder that even in an emergency, our community looks out for one another.

We appreciate the teamwork among our police, fire and EMS partners, as well as the patience of golfers and Big Creek Greenway users who may have experienced a temporary disruption while crews worked.

When someone needs help, getting them the care they need comes first. Thank you to everyone involved for helping make that happen.

Public Safety Update: Fulton County Schools False Swatting Incident

Fulton County Schools received information at approximately 4:30 a.m. today regarding a potential threat involving schools in the City of Alpharetta. The information came amid recent swatting incidents reported in neighboring communities.

The Alpharetta Police Department immediately began working with Fulton County School Police and neighboring law enforcement agencies, including the Johns Creek Police Department, to assess the information and determine whether there was a credible threat.

As a precaution, Fulton County Schools had temporarily placed select schools on a soft lockdown while school officials and law enforcement reviewed the information. That precautionary measure has since been lifted, and normal school operations were resumed.

Swatting involves making a false report of a serious emergency with the intent of prompting a significant law enforcement response. While these reports are often hoaxes intended to cause fear and disruption, law enforcement takes every report seriously and thoroughly investigates each one.

We recognize that reports like this can be concerning for students, parents, staff and the broader community. Today’s response demonstrates the strong coordination between Alpharetta Police, Fulton County School Police, Fulton County Schools and neighboring law enforcement agencies.

The safety of our community is always our highest priority, and we will continue to work closely with our partners to respond quickly and appropriately to any information that may affect our schools or residents.

Who knew supporting our first responders could come with a side of hibachi? 🔥🥢

The Red & Blue Cook For You dinner brought everyone together at Benihana for a night of good food, plenty of laughs and lots of support for our firefighters, police officers and 911 communications officers.

We’d say the night was well done, but that would be a terrible steak joke.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, placed a bid, donated and helped make this year’s event such a success! We’re blessed to have a community that knows how to join together, have a little fun and give back to the people who keep Alpharetta safe.
