πŸ›‘οΈ October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and it's important to know about tools that can help increase safety for those experiencing domestic violence.

A safety plan is a personalized plan that can help individuals prepare for situations of violence, whether they are currently experiencing abuse, planning to leave, or have already left an abusive situation.

Leaving can be one of the most dangerous times for a person experiencing domestic violence. Having a plan can help improve safety at home, school, work, or other places in the community. Since situations can change, it's helpful to work with an advocate when creating or updating a safety plan.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline offers a helpful online tool for creating a personal safety plan. Check it out here: (https://www.thehotline.org/plan-for-safety/create-your-personal-safety-plan/).

*Reminder: If you’re using a computer, make sure it’s in a safe location and not being monitored by the abuser.*

Today, we remember Patrolman William Luther Crowe of the Acworth Police Department, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty.

On October 17, 1954, Patrolman Crowe was involved in a vehicle crash while pursuing a drunk driver. His patrol car lost control and struck a tree. After serving our community for two years, he succumbed to his injuries one week later.

Patrolman Crowe was 65 years old and left behind his wife, two daughters, and several grandchildren. We honor his sacrifice and dedication to protecting Acworth, and we keep his family in our thoughts today.

Gone but never forgotten. πŸ’™

🚨 Know Your Options: Temporary Protective Orders (TPOs) 🚨

Temporary Protective Orders (TPOs) are legal documents that can provide protection for those affected by domestic violence. These orders typically prohibit contact from one person to another and set distance restrictions. While TPOs are civil orders, violating them can lead to criminal consequences.

⚠️ Remember: Even with a TPO in place, your safety is the top priority. If a TPO is violated or if there are any safety concerns, contact law enforcement immediately.
For those in Cobb County who need to file a TPO, here’s where to go:

πŸ“ Cobb County TPO Office
32 Waddell Street, Marietta, GA 30090
πŸ“ž 770-528-8024
πŸ•— Hours: Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM and Friday 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Note: The office operates on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointments are necessary.

Stay safe, and know that resources are available to support you.

πŸ’œ Thank You, Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church! πŸ’œ

The Acworth Police Department would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church for their generous donation and continued support of our community!

In recognition of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the church organized a special collection and, on October 18th, gathered much-needed supplies to donate to the Acworth Police Department. These items will be used by our Victim Advocate to provide assistance, comfort, and support to victims of domestic violence during difficult times.

We are incredibly grateful for the church's kindness, generosity, and commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need.

Thank you, Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, for standing with victims and helping us make a positive impact in our community! πŸ’œ

- MOVE OVER LAW:

Did you know you could get a ticket for not following the Move Over Law? More importantly, failing to follow it could lead to accidents that endanger or even claim the lives of people working on the side of the road.

When you see a stationary vehicle with flashing lights on the roadside, you must slow down and be prepared to stop, or move over one lane (creating an empty lane to ensure safety for first responders or anyone working near parked vehicles).
Many people aren’t aware this law applies not only to stationary emergency vehicles (like police, fire, or ambulance) but also to highway maintenance, utility service vehicles, and tow trucks.
