Hi all,
I’m posting to share a link on the city’s website that has some good information upcoming/pending projects in Dunwoody: https://www.dunwoodyga.gov/government/projects
Some occurring in the near future that might be of interest in District 2 include:

- Construction of Homecoming Park on Vermack Rd. This project will build out the master plan for the park. The city is in the process of hiring contractors for construction management and construction of the project.

- Mt. Vernon and Tilly Mill Intersection Project. This project will improve the efficiency and safety of the Tilly Mill and adjacent intersections by redesigning them and adding turn lanes. It will also include construction of Phase 1 of the Mount Vernon Path. This entails addition of a multi-use path segment along the north side of Mt. Vernon between Jett Ferry and Mt. Vernon Place and new sidewalk segments along the south side to fill in missing areas. Construction will begin later this year once utility relocations are complete.

- Mt. Vernon Path Project Phase 2. This project will continue the multi-use path and sidewalk additions started in Phase 1 (above). A multi-use path will be constructed along the north side of Mt. Vernon between Mt. Vernon Place and Vermack Rd. New sidewalk segments will be constructed along the south side to fill in missing areas. Turn lanes for several intersecting roads and protected pedestrian crosswalks will also be included. Rights-of-way are currently being acquired for this project.

Hi all,

I'm posting to share are a number of upcoming city events that might be of interest.

May 20 at 6:00 pm (next Wed) the city's Sustainability Committee is hosting a Green Speak event on home energy efficiency at Dunwoody Nature Center. This is a free event. May 21 from 4-6:00 pm (next Thursday) the Parks Department is hosting a "Touch a Truck" event as part of the opening ceremony for the new maintenance facility at Brook Run Park. Kids will be able to explore construction equipment at the location of the new facility. As a bonus, DHA's food trucks will also be up at the playground for their Dine Around Dunwoody event. May 25 at 10:00 am the city will hold its annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Veteran's Memorial at Brook Run Park to honor and remember military members who died in the line of duty.

May 28 at 11:30 am the city will hold it's annual Bike to Lunch with the Council event starting at city hall. Bring your bike, helmet, and a few dollars for lunch and enjoy a short easy paced 5-6 mile ride. I hope everyone's week is going well. I'm posting to share a couple of items that may be of interest.

Village Crossing Project. A public meeting for this project is scheduled for tomorrow night from 5pm to 7pm at Vintage Pizza in the Village. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts on the initial design of streetscape and traffic improvements on Chamblee-Dunwoody through the Village. Front Yard Tree program. There are still trees available for interested homeowners. These are free trees (up to two per household) that will be planted by Trees Atlanta to help improve the city’s streetscapes. Hi all,
I hope that everyone’s week is off to a good start. I’m posting to share some information on a couple of upcoming meetings that may be of interest.

1/14 (Wed): DeKalb Delegation Town Hall – 6:30 to 8:30 at City Hall on Ashford Dunwoody Rd. Although not a city event, this is an opportunity to meet with state representatives with districts in DeKalb County and to learn about what might be upcoming in this year’s legislative session. The two representatives for Dunwoody, Long Tran and Shae Roberts, will be there.

1/21 (Wed): Georgetown Small Area Plan Open House - 5:00 to 7:00 at the City Annex on N. Shallowford Rd. This meeting is an opportunity to learn about and provide input on the Georgetown Small Area Plan. This plan will build off of the city’s comprehensive plan update that was approved last year. It will be focused on the commercial/business area around Chamblee-Dunwoody and North Shallowford roads near I-285. If you have an interest in development and redevelopment in the city, this an important meeting to attend. The Georgetown area was first developed in 1960’s and 70’s and is in a location with good road transportation access. In my opinion this makes it a part of the city that is attractive for redevelopment. It’s critical to establish a plan now to guide future changes to this area.

I’m sharing the mayor’s post to help spread the message and information about opportunities to support here in Dunwoody.

In the wake of the horrible violence against Jews in Australia, I feel it is important to share something that is often misunderstood. A public Hanukkah menorah lighting is not just a gathering or a symbol. It is a religious obligation.

Lighting the menorah publicly fulfills a mitzvah. Jewish law is explicit that the light is meant to be seen. That matters because antisemitism has always punished Jewish visibility. Hanukkah asks Jews to be visible anyway.

When a public menorah lighting is targeted, it is an attack not only on people but on the idea that Jews can safely practice their faith in the open. Bringing light into public space should never come with fear.

That is why showing up matters.

Attending a public menorah lighting is a meaningful act of support. Standing together says that Jewish life belongs openly in our shared spaces. I hope you will consider joining one of these upcoming community lightings.

For those who cannot attend in person, another meaningful way to stand in solidarity is by placing a menorah in your window alongside your other holiday decorations. This simple act of visibility, supported by Project Menorah, started by DHS graduate Adam Kulbersh, helps ensure that Jewish neighbors do not feel alone in bringing light into the public eye. At a moment when hate seeks to push people back into the shadows, choosing light publicly and together matters.

Last month, the DeKalb County School District hosted its Principal for a Day program, giving civic and business leaders the chance to shadow a local school principal. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to participate at Vanderlyn Elementary. I thoroughly enjoyed gaining a deeper look into school operations and spending time with the wonderful students who attend VES. Many thanks to DCSD for creating this experience, and to Principal Robert Clayton for so generously sharing his day with me.

I’m sharing a post from the city’s website. A scam from this summer has resurfaced involving the city’s permit system. The key point - check emails you get that claim to be from the city to make sure they really are from the city. Most importantly, do not pay fees by wire transfer. The post below has a staff contact phone number you can call if you’re not sure or have questions.

Fraud Alert! We’re investigating a series of fraudulent emails sent to residents and businesses with planning-related applications filed with the City of Dunwoody. These include zoning and variance cases, as well as special administrative permits. The emails request payment by electronic wire transfer. This is a RED flag. The City never uses wire transfers for these matters. Another clue – the emails are coming from the Planning Commission, which typically does not send direct correspondence. In addition, the email is sent from an address ending in “usa.com” and is not a valid City email address. Please DO NOT OPEN the invoice attachment or wire any funds. If you receive a suspicious email or have questions, don’t hesitate to call us at 678-382-6757.

Hi all,
Someone asked me about reporting requirements for elected officials and candidates for office earlier this evening. I though I’d share a quick outline of the requirements for others who might be interested.

Everyone running for office is required to file a Personal Financial Disclosure Statement and elected officials continue to file this statement each year they are in office. In addition, Campaign Contribution Disclosure Reports (CCDRs) of campaign donations and expenses must be filed according to a set schedule that varies depending on whether it is an election or non-election year.

There is an exception to the CCDR filing requirement. If an “Affidavit of a Candidate's Intent Not To Exceed $2500 in Contributions and/or Expenses” has been submitted and donations/expenses remain below $2,500, CCDRs are not required. I filed this affidavit as part of this year’s election qualifying.
