We share our prayers and condolences to the family and friends. Our first responders, law enforcement and EMS. As well as our community who knew Mr. Haswell as “Dry-Wall-Bob”. He touched numerous lives and interacted with many businesses with his professional services. Our community hurts with this significant loss.

The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office can confirm that at approximately 4:34 pm today, our 9-1-1 Center received a call in regard to a shooting that had occurred in the 1700 Block of Dawes St. in Ashland, NE.

After negotiating on the phone with the caller and suspect in the incident, the suspect came outside unarmed and was taken into custody by Ashland Police Officers.

The suspect, Robert Haswell Jr.(31 y/o) was taken into custody for 1st Degree Murder and Use of a Deadly Weapon to commit a Felony and lodged at Saunders County Corrections.

The victim has been identified as Robert Haswell Sr. (67 y/o). He suffered at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Ashland Police Dept, Nebraska State Patrol, and the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the investigation. Ashland Fire and Rescue also assisted at the scene.

Next of Kin have been notified. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this tragic incident.

Please avoid the area on 17th/16th street between Clay and Dawes due to an ongoing emergency. There will be multiple emergency agencies working in the area.
There is no threat to the public at this time.
