Each June, we recognize Elder Abuse Awareness Month and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15.

Year-round, our agency’s Adult Protective Services division works hard to support elder adults and their caregivers by providing resources and education around the different types of abuse, neglect and exploitation.

In recognition of Elder Abuse Awareness Month and WEAAD, DCF and partnering agencies are hosting an educational tour with presentations on durable powers of attorney (DPOAs) and financial exploitation/scams.

These free educational presentations are intended to help older adults, caregivers, current or future DPOAs, social workers and community members learn about these topics and how to support older Kansans.

State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) offers free, in-depth, personalized, and unbiased counseling on complex Medicare issues, while 1-800-MEDICARE is the official federal helpline for general Medicare information and basic assistance.
