Planning a burn – campfire, barrel, or pit in our area? Get an open burn permit first! Unpermitted burning could lead to a citation or even worse! Always follow ADEQ and County guidelines, avoid burning on windy days, and check for any active burn bans.
Ensure you supervise the burn continuously and thoroughly extinguish and cool the ashes afterward. Keep water accessible, hand tools nearby, maintain a distance of at least 50 feet from structures and other exposures, and clear a wide area around the burn site to prevent spread.
If you're in the Ash Fork area and plan to burn, please call AFFD at 928-637-2533 (please listen carefully to the recording), then clearly state the burn location, your name, and phone number, twice.
Here's a quick checklist:
1. Obtain an Open Burn Permit from ADEQ.
2. Check the weather/wind forecast and current burn restrictions.
3. Prepare the site, tools, water, and supervise the burn at all times.
4. Contact AFFD to provide address and/or GPS coordinates and contact phone number.
5. Ensure complete extinguishment!
