If boots could talk, there would be so many interesting stories! Chasing goats, crawling through buckthorn and thistles to catch a rabbit, building a greenhouse in the snow, having little feet climb aboard to use them as stilts, building forts, hunting rocks, picking berries, fixing fences, and chopping up trees.

The nice thing is that if boots could talk, the left one already has a mouth! And would probably ask for retirement

Fun fact (Megan insists everyone else knows this!). I was researching taxonomy and cladistics and it turns out chickens are not just "like dinosaurs", they actually are dinosaurs. They are directly descended from the same line as all other dinosaurs. And birds are the only living members of the clade "Dinosauria"!! So dinosaurs never went extinct, there are actually more today than ever before!

With this new knowledge, our farm will henceforth be known as "Rose Valley Jurassic Farm"

Tomorrow we will be open from 9:00-1 for the first community Day this year! We don't have much produce for picking this time of year, but we will have space for kids to play, chicks to visit, and tractor rides to visit our goats and rabbits! And we promise(to the best of our abilities) to have our goats accessible for everyone to pet!

It feels like spring has finally arrived! We are excited to share more about how you can get involved in the farm this summer–our first community day is May 9 from 9 AM - 1 PM!

Monthly Community Days: On the second Saturday of each month, we will be open for raspberry you-pick with all proceeds going toward local food shelves! This is also a great time to meet your neighbors, learn more about our growing practices, and pick up a book from the Free Little Library on your way out 🙂

Weekly Orders: Every Friday starting mid-May, we will do a post here to let you know what is currently being harvested on the farm. You can fill out an order form, and schedule a pick up time on Saturday.

Field Trips & Tours: If you have a group who would like to come out to learn more outside of our Monthly Community Day, just let us know and we can get that scheduled!

Learn more about all of these options here: https://www.rosevalleyfarm.org/visit-us

Since starting Rose Valley Farm in 2022, life looks pretty different for us. We added two kids, changed full time jobs, and our oldest started school. We are grateful for the freedom to continue to build this community while supporting the changing needs of our family 🩵

We can’t wait to see more of everyone this summer!

I didn't think much about what shirt I picked this morning, but tonight it got me thinking.

Every day when I go out to collect eggs to feed my family, I’m grateful. But I’m also reminded of the mess that comes with it.

It builds up slowly until one day you look around and realize how much it is. And sometimes it feels overwhelming.

There are moments I realize something uncomfortable: I can walk away from it. I can go inside, into a clean(ish) house, and choose not to think about it.

But they can’t.

They live in what’s left behind because of my needs, my habits, my comfort.

I could choose differently. Maybe something more simple. Cleaner. But change is hard and it always is. And we’re always being asked to change in one way or another.
But maybe it doesn’t start with everything. Maybe it starts small.

Maybe it means opening my eyes to realizing just what has been going on. Maybe it means making a little less mess. Having a little more care. Teaching my kids to notice, to help, to take responsibility for what we’re part of.

Because if we ignore it, the mess doesn’t go away, it just grows.

I enjoy my life, but that joy is tempered with the guilt of knowing I can walk away from the messes left behind.

Some can’t.

Some messes you can start to clean with a pitchfork and a little elbow grease.

Some messes you can start to clean by paying attention.

(Wearthepeace.com is a great place to find other shirts like this!)
