The Bird Center is a lovely place to volunteer. They are blessed to have a "facility" so volunteers have a place to work. I volunteered there years ago and it was a lot of fun. (:

The Bird Center of Michigan is now accepting intern applications for the 2026 baby season! 🐣

Our mission is to rehabilitate and release songbirds back into their natural habitat while educating our community about the importance of protecting birds. With over 2400 patients admitted, 2025 was our busiest year yet.

Full-time and part-time positions are available with a stipend. Must be 18 or older to apply. Prior experience with animals is preferred but not required.

Intern duties include (but are not limited to) feeding baby and adult songbirds, cleaning bird enclosures, administering medications and other treatments to injured birds, completing exams of birds on intake, answering phone calls, and accepting birds from the public.

Interning at the Bird Center of Michigan is an excellent opportunity to learn all aspects of songbird wildlife rehabilitation, including bird anatomy, proper housing and diets for various species, signs of illness in birds, parasitology, head injuries, and much more!

Note: We are unable to provide housing accommodations for out-of-state interns. Those who have interned from out of state in the past have found accommodations in neighboring Ann Arbor.

For details on hours, stipends, and how to apply, visit our website at https://birdcentermi.org/internships/.

Baby season has begun. Before cutting the grass for the first time, check your lawn for a bunny nest. It can appear on top like a spot of patch....they can also be in your garden, they can also nest in your compost pile. They are only in the nest for a couple of weeks, then they'll move on. Please look out for them. (:

"Peet and PETA are optimistic Chimp Crazy can generate the same kind of interest for the Captive Primate Safety Act, a bill recently reintroduced in the U.S. House and Senate that seeks to prohibit the private ownership of non-human primates."
