The holiday weekend is approaching! This is my ask to you: ask (at least) 3 friends or family members if they’ve voted in the Chugach Electric board election. If they haven’t, urge them to vote for Penny Gage and Rachel Morse for Chugach Electric for the two open seats!

And thank you!

This week I’m attending the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference and enjoying seeing so many friends and colleagues I’ve worked with in energy issues for years.

Hydropower, data centers, rural microgrids, LNG, advanced nuclear, workforce, critical minerals…Alaska’s energy future is genuinely complex, and it is energizing to be in the room with so many people working on it from so many angles.

These are exactly the kinds of conversations I want to be bringing to the Chugach board. Our members deserve a director who is plugged in to what’s happening across the state and the industry.

Ballots are open through May 29. If you’re a Chugach member, I’d love your to earn your vote. PennyforChugach.com

When energy becomes unreliable or unaffordable, families feel it first - in their utility bills, their rent, their grocery costs, and their businesses. I'm running because this is a pivotal moment for Chugach Electric, and it requires the right kind of leadership on the board. That's exactly what I'm running to deliver.

⚡ Alaska energy folks, this one is for you!

This Thursday, May 21st from 12 to 1pm, check out this free webinar: "Toward a More Efficient Railbelt: Exploring Unified Economic Dispatch," hosted by Renewable Energy Alaska Project - REAP.

You probably already know that Cook Inlet gas supplies are dwindling and energy costs are rising. But here's something that doesn't get talked about enough: there may be ways to blunt some of those coming cost increases through smarter coordination across the Railbelt's utilities...without waiting on a new pipeline or a major infrastructure project.

That's what Unified Economic Dispatch (UED) is about: a systemwide approach to generating and distributing power that could save Railbelt ratepayers tens of millions of dollars a year by making sure we're always using our cheapest available power first. It's already how most of the country operates. Alaska is one of the few places that hasn't fully gotten there yet.

This webinar is a great chance to get up to speed on what UED is, what it could mean for Alaska, and how a model might work here.

Rachel Morse for Chugach Electric and I had a lovely time at a potluck this evening with fellow Returned Peace Corps Volunteers.

Rachel and I both served in the US Peace Corps and public service continues to be an important part of our lives. For me, service on the Chugach Electric board would be a continuation of that commitment.

We spoke with folks about the importance of voting in the election and answered questions. And of course enjoyed delicious food from countries around the world!

Thank you to Raven’s Roost CoHousing for hosting us!
