Members of Amherst East and South Rotary — along with friends and family of Rotary — spent Saturday morning volunteering with the dedicated Buffalo Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace.
From 8:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., we worked alongside an attentive, skilled, organized, and well-trained SHP crew in bright, spacious work areas to help build beds for children in need. We carried, sanded, drilled, screwed, and branded wood pieces — all part of the process of making sure more children have a safe, comfortable place to sleep.
The Buffalo Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace has now delivered and assembled 7,440 beds throughout Buffalo and Western New York. Each bed is delivered, assembled, and fully outfitted with a mattress, pad, sheets, blankets, and pillow for children who might otherwise be sleeping on couches, floors, wood pallets, or crowded in with other family members.
The Buffalo Chapter has also expanded its reach beyond the Buffalo area to include Batavia, Niagara Falls, and the Southern Tier, all in support of the mission that “No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town.”
The need is still great, and you can help by donating funs,providing new twin-size bedding, volunteering, or having your organization sponsor a bed build and get in on the action.

AMHERST ROTARY TO SPONSOR A BED BUILD ON MAY 16

We have a bed-build at Sleep In Heavenly Peace scheduled for May 16. We need at least 12 volunteers to be listed as a Build Sponsor on that date. You may register on the Sleep In Heavenly Peace web site or send me names and emails of volunteers so we can acheive our needed 12 for the May 16 build. Pertinent information (location of build will be sent to you after registration.

Description--You will be sanding, stamping, drilling, assembling and staining all of the parts required to construct a twin-sized bed for kids in our community.
Eligibility--Ages: 8-99
Purpose--We are really excited to have you help us build beds so we can help kids in our community sleep better. We ask every volunteer to PLEASE bring a donation of a new twin cloth mattress pad to offset our costs. Robot or human?

Role--The process is a bit dusty. Please wear CLOSED-TOE shoes. 16 and over are welcome on their own. EVERY volunteer from 8 - 15 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED by a registered adult volunteer (1 : 1 ratio). Completed online waiver required to participate.
