Veterans and Military Law Association at Richmond Law A supportive network for student veterans, students interested in future service and the military. P

Veterans and Military Law Association (VMLA) at Richmond Law's mission is to establish a supportive network for students who are veterans of the armed forces, students interested in serving upon graduation, and students with family members or close friends who are associated with the military. In addition, we strive to serve as a platform to promote veterans' issues on campus and in the community.

To achieve our mission, we will organize activities on and off campus, work with local veteran service organizations, and promote our role as veterans at UR Law and within RVA. VMLA officers for the 2013-2014 academic year:

On behalf of the Veterans and Military Law Association at the University of Richmond School of Law, we send our love to the family of Professor Peter Swisher, who passed away today.

Professor Swisher was a veteran of the U.S. Army, the faculty advisor to our Veterans organization at the law school, an inspirational professor of law, and he will be sorely missed.

Fair winds and following seas, Professor Swisher. Thank you for your service.

Next Thursday, April 14, a memorial service will be held at Amelia Veterans Cemetery at 11:00am for three unclaimed military veterans recently deceased in Richmond. Each of the three veterans were honorably discharged.

Because these veterans have no known family or friends, the Virginia Department of Veterans Services will honor them with an unclaimed service. Members of the Veterans and Military Law Association are invited to attend this service to support these unclaimed veterans with the final honors they deserve.

Unfortunately, this type of service is not uncommon. See the below news story for an example of an unclaimed veteran service.

Wear business or appropriate service uniform attire.

Semper Fidelis,
Bubba

More than 1,000 people gathered together in a church outside Indianapolis Tuesday to honor the life of a veteran with no record of living family members, the Greenfield Daily Reporter reported.
