Today, on Memorial Day, we honor the brave service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. Their courage and dedication protected the freedoms we hold dear and remind us of the profound cost of liberty.

As we gather with family and friends, may we also take time to reflect on the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the enduring responsibility we share to care for one another and strengthen our communities.

To all Gold Star families and those carrying the weight of loss today ā€” we remember, we honor, and we are grateful.

After a 36 hour marathon at the Capitol, the 2026 legislative session has come to a close! Itā€™s an honor to be your advocate at the table, and is even more special that I get to serve alongside my ā€œbrotherā€ Rep. Larry McBurney. And now we head home to sleep!

14 hours of debate later (11pm) and House Appropriations just met for *hopefully* the last time this session to discuss the still empty Standings bill. Itā€™s a shell bill, meaning no transparency on one of the most important bills the taxpayers fund before it comes to the full house floor. This is not how government should run, but weā€™re working hard to hold the majority party accountable for all Iowans.
