To add to this post let me explain the purpose of the ESD. The ESD was put into place in order to ensure that the fire dept has the necessary funds to be able to operate to be able to provide the valuable first responder services to its community. With the ever rising cost of day to day life it’s harder these days for volunteer departments to survive off of donations from fundraisers alone. The ESD is voted on by the community that it will serve and if the vote passes it is placed into effect. There is a lot of work in getting it started but we have surpassed all that in the past year. The main focus of the board is to oversee the funds that come in. The funds come in from the county based on property tax values for the area of service. The funds are public funds that are paid to the ESD an the ESD board is in charge of those funds to make sure that the public money and interest are being handled properly to fund the fire dept and the board itself. As mentioned in the original post the job of a board member is volunteer, we receive no payment for our service but it is a necessary service to ensure the funds are properly managed.
