Calling it a mental health crisis when people are drowning in poverty is like blaming them for not swimming hard enough.
You can’t therapy your way out of poverty any more than you can outswim the ocean and sometimes it’s easier to call it a mental health crisis than admit people are drowning in an economy built to keep them underwater.
People aren’t failing to cope, they’re being asked to survive the unsurvivable.
Mental health care matters, but if the system keeps drowning people, therapy alone becomes swimming lessons in a flood.
