Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley

Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley Connecting volunteers with the needs of the Lehigh Valley community for over 35 years! Incorporation followed in 1985.

The Volunteer Center began in 1982 when the Junior League of the Lehigh Valley voted to establish a Voluntary Action Center as a project, pledging $30,000 over a two-year period. In 1989, the Volunteer Center became an internal department of the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley and in January 1997, the Volunteer Center again became an independent agency — the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh

Valley. Today, the Volunteer Center focuses on three main areas of volunteerism: Educate, Coordinate and Motivate. These are the core of what we do, who we are and our programs, projects and events reflect these areas. The Volunteer Center is affiliated nationally with The Points of Light Institute, HandsOn Network, and the Corporation for National & Community Service, and is a member of the following: Volunteer Centers of Pennsylvania; the State Commission Advisory Board for Citizen Service; Keystone Service Coalition; United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley; and Society of Volunteer Administrators of the Lehigh Valley. In 2015, the Volunteer Center recruited, matched, recognized, and trained more than 20,000 volunteers. The Volunteer Center collaborates with more than 50 area corporations and 450 Lehigh Valley agencies to create educational and human service partnerships to enhance and enrich the Lehigh Valley community.

Please join us in welcoming our 2026 YLEAD Summer Interns, Shaina and Ella!

Shaina is a rising junior at DeSales University, where she is studying Speech-Language Pathology. When she isn’t hitting the books, you can often find her baking something delicious.

Ella is a rising senior at the University of Georgia, studying Social Studies Education and Political Science. In her free time, she enjoys crafting and spending time outdoors.

Together, Shaina and Ella will lead our YLEAD program this summer, creating meaningful opportunities for high school students to build leadership skills, serve local nonprofits, and connect with their community. We’re thrilled to have their creativity, energy, and enthusiasm on our team!

Know a high school student who would be interested in developing leadership skills and earning community service hours this summer? We still have spots available for YLEAD! Learn more and register here: https://www.volunteerlv.org/y-LEAD

A huge thank you to our Intern Impact Day sponsors, who are also our corporate intern teams, for showing up for the Lehigh Valley in such a meaningful way.

On June 18th, 14 corporate teams will be out in the community completing nonprofit projects across the region, bringing energy, skills, and hands-on support to the organizations doing critical work every day. Your participation doesn’t just fund the day, it fuels it.

Thank you for investing in our nonprofit community and for helping make Intern Impact Day possible!

⭐ Nonprofit Member Highlight: Whitehall Historical Preservation Society⭐

This month, we’re excited to spotlight the Whitehall Historical Preservation Society! They have been a Volunteer Center member since 2022 and a 5-star favorite among volunteers on our website. Volunteers consistently mention how amazing the team is to work with, and how welcomed and supported they feel while giving back.

WHPS is dedicated to preserving Whitehall Township’s history by protecting historically significant places and collecting, archiving, and sharing artifacts from our community’s past, helping keep local stories alive for future generations.

Saturday, we celebrated our Youth Council graduation, and it was the perfect way to close out the year. We had the chance to recognize our outgoing student leaders, welcome new leadership team members, and spend time connecting through games, conversation, and plenty of laughs.

We’re incredibly proud of the growth, service, and leadership this group brought to the Lehigh Valley this year. Thank you to every student who showed up, stepped up, and helped make this year so meaningful. We can’t wait to see what the Youth Council will accomplish next!

High school students can spend part of their summer building leadership skills, giving back, and making a real impact in the Lehigh Valley through YLEAD!

This summer youth leadership program gives students the opportunity to support local nonprofits through onsite volunteer projects, explore community needs, and earn up to 20 hours of community service.

Led by two summer interns, YLEAD also helps young people learn what it means to lead with purpose, collaboration, and heart.

This year’s program will be offered during two separate weeks at the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley office in Allentown.

Registration closes June 17!

Two weeks later, and we’re still feeling the ripple effects of this year’s Volunteer Challenge!

What started as project lists and schedules turned into real, tangible change, nonprofits strengthened, spaces improved, teams connected, and needs met in ways that will last far beyond a single day of service.

We’re so grateful to the nonprofits who opened their doors and shared their needs, and to the businesses and volunteers who showed up with time, talent, and a “let’s get it done” mindset. The Volunteer Challenge is proof that when the Lehigh Valley comes together, community impact isn’t just a goal it’s what happens.

Want to be a part of the impact? Join us next year on Tuesday May 11th, 2027!
