The fight for equality has always required people willing to speak up, organize, and demand change.

On this Women’s Equality Day, we recognize the women whose advocacy led to the 19th Amendment and expanded voting rights, as well as those who continued the fight for equal access to the ballot. Their work reminds us that progress is never something we can take for granted.

We honor their legacy by continuing that work today.

Yesterday was another one of those 12-hour days, down and back to Richmond, that’s increasingly routine, even for “part-time” citizen-legislators.

Started the morning with the Joint Money Committee briefing from Gov. Spanberger where she revealed the Republican cuts in Congress resulted in 44,000 Virginians losing their jobs.

Then multiple discussions with colleagues and cabinet officials on: veterans affairs, higher eduction, autonomous vehicles, advanced air mobility, legalized ma*****na market, and campaign finance abuses.

Next, Governor Abigail Spanberger took some time to visit with three Loudoun County Public Schools graduates, and now rising college sophomores, to learn about their innovative Biobench made from sustainable and recycled material.

…and, finally, we convened a Foster Care Special Interest Group at the Shineforth Campus, where legislators and subject matter experts heard an overview of the Virginia Foster Care System and began discussions on how to address positive changes for the 2027 Session.
