Nakba Day, which is observed every year on May 15, commemorates the continual displacement of Palestinians since the establishment of the Zionist state. The Nakba [the catastrophe] befell the Palestinian people in 1948, in which over 800,000 Palestinian refugees were forcibly displaced from their homes by Zionist militias. Massacres of the Nakba such as Deir Yassin, Kufur Qassem and Al-Dawayima speak to the ethnic cleansing campaigns that are inherent in the creation of the Zionist colonial project. This year Palestinians are mourning 71 years of displacement, exile and the continual theft of Palestinian land. The Nakba never ended, it is a daily reality. The Nakba is the continual destruction of homes, the depopulation of villages, and the displacement of Palestinians that continues to this day. The Nakba is also the millions of Palestinian refugees who cannot return to their homeland. With struggle and unity, we will return.
