With Memorial Day just a few days away, we gathered at the DAV State Convention for a deeply moving Honor Ceremony and tolling of the Honor Bell.
This Memorial Day weekend carries special meaning for the Honor Bell Foundation, as it also marks the 10th anniversary of the dedication of the Fort Logan Honor Bell — ten years of tolling in remembrance, ten years of standing beside families, and ten years of carrying forward the promise that no veteran’s service will be forgotten and no family will stand alone.
And because of the generosity and support of our community, we were also able to introduce the Pikes Peak Honor Bell — our second Honor Bell — to the DAV State Convention, expanding the echo of remembrance and bringing this sacred mission to even more veterans, families, and communities across Colorado.
In this powerful moment, veterans from across our community stepped forward to toll the Bell — including members of the Women Veteran Warriors Color Guard from New Mexico and Derrick Vaughns from Tunnel to Towers Foundation Denver Veteran Village. Each toll carried the names, faces, stories, and legacies of the heroes we hold in our hearts.
The sound of the Bell is more than sound.
It is memory.
It is honor.
It is the echo of every hero who served, every life given, every family who still carries an empty chair at the table, and every folded flag resting on a mantle.
To the DAV leaders, veterans, vendors, advocates, and community members who joined us: thank you. Thank you for pausing with us. Thank you for remembering. Thank you for serving those who served.
As we head into Memorial Day weekend, may we carry the legacies of our heroes forward — and may we recommit ourselves to living lives worthy of their sacrifice.
You are remembered.
You are honored.
