Wow.

Congratulations to the New York Knicks on a historic championship run and an incredible season that brought New Yorkers together from every corner of our state.

Here in Albany, the Capital City of New York, we proudly held the Knicks down. Our watch parties brought thousands of people together, energized our downtown, supported local businesses, and created the kind of community moments that remind us what makes our city special.

This is why turning the lights back on in Albany matters. Over the past 10 days, City-sponsored events generated economic activity, filling restaurants, bars, and businesses while creating opportunities for residents to come together and celebrate something bigger than themselves.

For a few weeks, orange and blue united neighborhoods, generations, and communities across New York, the United States, and the entire world. From Albany to Madison Square Garden, we are all New York Knicks, forever.

Albany, we are continuing to share clear, regular updates as we work to stabilize the City’s finances.

My administration has submitted all responses to the Common Council’s 81-question budget inquiry.

This week, the Deputy Mayor and Commissioner of Administrative Services also briefed the Finance Committee on the City’s state aid history and the spending reduction plan currently underway.

On Monday, June 15th, we will launch the formal budget planning process for the 2027 fiscal year, with formal communication to City departments.

As this work continues, I will keep providing updates so residents can see how we are getting clear on the numbers, making responsible decisions, and building a stronger financial foundation for Albany’s future.

Summer is here, and families should not have to search across dozens of websites and social media pages to find safe, meaningful opportunities for their children.

That is why I launched https://albanyny.gov/2512/Summer-Fun-in-Albany, a centralized resource hub for summer youth programs, activities, and events across Albany.

This site brings together information from the City, County, schools, faith organizations, and community partners all in one place. Families can easily access program dates, registration details, and contact information more easily.

This work is part of our coordinated violence prevention strategy. When young people are engaged in positive activities and connected to real opportunities, our whole city is stronger.

Thank you to Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter, Commissioner Jahmel Robinson, Commissioner Jonathan Jones, Pastor Charles Gresham, APD’s Anti-Violence Coordinator Shaquana Kakumba, Albany Public Library, our host of school partners, We Are Revolutionary, Albany Community Land Trust, Trinity Alliance, and the additional organizations who work with our youth and families every day.

I ask that schools, nonprofits, and community groups join our coordinated work by submitting their summer programming as we continue to add resources throughout the season.

Visit https://albanyny.gov/2512/Summer-Fun-in-Albany to explore available programs and submit program info.

Families interested in City recreation facilities, pools, and programs can also register for a free Department of Recreation pass at https://www.albanyny.gov/2515/RecPass

It’s lunchtime.

Maurice’s Deli is one of those Albany staples that helps make downtown feel like downtown.

Located on South Pearl Street in the heart of Albany’s business district, Maurice’s has been serving residents, workers, and visitors since 1996. The business carries a longer family story too, beginning with Maurice Green and his wife Sylvia, who opened the original Maurice’s in Schenectady in the 1950s.

And yes, the roast beef claim is real. Maurice’s built its name on rotisserie-cooked beef eye rounds, sliced to order, dipped au jus, served on fresh bread or rolls, and finished with homemade horseradish sauce. Their own history says customers called it the “finest roast beef you’ll ever have,” and that reputation still follows them today.

That history, and the steady commitment it takes to keep showing up, serving good food, and being part of the daily rhythm of our city, is one of the many reasons this city loves this business.

Thank you to Maurice’s Deli for your continued investment in Albany and for serving our community year after year. I encourage everyone to stop in, grab lunch, and support a local business that has helped feed downtown for decades.

I spoke at the Tri-City Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee graduation and celebrate graduates who completed a five-year path to becoming electricians.

This milestone represents years of training, discipline, and hands-on experience. These graduates are entering careers that build our homes, businesses, schools, infrastructure, and future.

Thank you to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association for investing in the next generation of skilled workers. Programs like this create real pathways to employment and long-term opportunity.

I also want to recognize the veterans in this program. Your continued commitment to service and growth is an example we should all respect.

To the graduates, congratulations. You earned this moment. I hope many of you keep your talent right here in the Capital Region, because our communities need skilled professionals like you.

I joined HATAS and the Capital Region Furniture Bank for the Build a Bed event and to celebrate 10 years of work helping families turn empty apartments into warm, stable homes.

This work matters because stability is built in the details. A bed to sleep in. A place to hang a coat. A table for a meal. These are basic needs, but they are also the pieces that help people feel dignity, pride, and safety in the place they live.

For 10 years, the Capital Region Furniture Bank has accepted furniture donations from community members and used them to support individuals and families transitioning into permanent housing. That is meaningful, practical help.

Thank you to Tawana Davis, HATAS Board President, Liz Hitt, Executive Director, Assemblymember Gabriella Romero, Michelle Toch Dinsmore from Airbnb, the Charles Touhey Foundation, Old Brick Furniture, and every partner who helped make this event possible.

HATAS shows up for our community in so many ways, from rapid rehousing and Code Blue assistance to permanent supportive housing, coordinated entry, and hunger prevention.

Thank you to the entire HATAS team for your continued commitment to meaningful change in Albany and across the Capital Region. Here’s to the next 10 years of turning empty apartments into happy, thriving homes.

After that last Knicks win, our office had one thought: this calls for New York’s unofficial official breakfast sandwich, a bacon, egg, and cheese on a hard roll.

Or, for now, maybe the Brunson Bacon, OG Egg and Cheese.

So we stopped by Eggy’s Place, a true Albany staple in the Warehouse District.

Eggy was born and raised right here in Albany and has carried that nickname since his breakfast days at the former Quintessence. In 2004, he started serving from a vintage food truck. Twenty-two years later, he is still at the corner of Erie Boulevard and North Lawrence Street, feeding Albany with the kind of consistency that turns a small business into a local institution.

Eggy’s Place is open weekdays and closed on weekends. Breakfast starts at 7 AM, and lunch runs from 11 AM to 1:30 PM.

Albany’s small businesses help make this city feel alive. Eggy’s has been serving Albany for 22 years. As we expand food truck access in our city, it only felt right to show love to one of Albany’s originals.
